I have not seen any of the debates. I should try to find them on the web. I dont think anyone in their right mind would pander to the Libertarian party really no sense to do so. I mean he wont be elected and only take votes from the real neo-cons.

3rd parties won't win because idiots like you think you only have 2 choices. And then you wonder why nothing changes.
If it wasn't for Perrot you would have had a 2nd daddy Bush term and Bill Clinton would have been Dukakis. If it wasn't for Nader, Gore would have won in 2000. The Bull Moose party screwes taft out of 2nd term. Southern Dems starting the American Independance Party in 1968 allowed Nixon to win. So yes 3rd party candidates have made differences.Comment

Barr is probably the most bi-polar politician ever...
First he was a Democrat, then he was a Republican, now he's a Libertarian (the wayward home for political crackpots).
Don't get me wrong, as long as he takes votes away from McCain, I say, throw away your vote and support him.
But there's more (much, much more, if you care to do the due diligence on this clown)...Barr (is a) former Republican. But Barr wasn't just any Republican: he led the G.O.P. in a number of causes that are completely anathema to rank-and-file libertarians.
A faithful social conservative throughout his tenure in the House, he helped quash Washington, D.C.'s right to vote on medical marijuana, upbraided the Pentagon for letting soldiers practice Wiccan beliefs, and led early attempts at preventing gays from marrying. Not exactly the stuff of libertarian dreams.
In fact, one of the biggest political victories of the modern Libertarian Party was to unseat Bob Barr in 2002; they poured money into an anti-Barr campaign, ran attack ads and called him the "worst drug warrior in Congress". Another strike against Barr: he's a former CIA official and a former federal prosecutor. "To Libertarians," one of his opponents told me, "that's like being a child molester."
Barr now alternates between contrition for his past and highlighting his post-9/11 record of fighting against federal rollbacks of civil liberties. He works with both the ACLU and the NRA.
The more you look into his background the more you realize that he is a political whirlybird that changes directions whichever way the wind happens to be blowing between that hole in his head.Publisher Larry Flynt Levels Accusations at Rep. Bob Barr
Hustler magazine publisher Larry Flynt is accusing Republican Rep. Bob Barr of Georgia of sexual infidelity, hypocrisy and lying under oath about an abortion.
Barr is refusing to discuss his personal life with the news media, but issued a statement saying "I have never perjured myself...I have never suggested, urged, forced or encouraged anyone to have an abortion."
In a late-night news conference in California, Flynt released an affidavit from Barr's former wife, Gail, in which she said Barr paid for an abortion she had in 1983 and that he never objected to it.
Barr said under oath in his 1986 divorce testimony that he did object to the abortion.
The ex-wife also said in the affidavit that she now believes Barr, while still married to her, began an affair with the woman he married a month after the divorce became final in 1986.
But like I said before, as long as he takes votes away from McCain, I say, throw away your vote and support him...

I would state that it's real hard for a 3rd party to win anything because the two parties in power have made the rules so fucking difficult for them that they can't get a foothold. It's tough to get on all the ballots in a general election. They are also excluded from all debates and don't get public funding.3rd parties won't win because idiots like you think you only have 2 choices. And then you wonder why nothing changes.

In any event, I've donated to the Libertarian Party for the past few years. I may vote Barr in the general since I'm in Illinois and my vote for President won't count for much (although I'd have preferred a different candidate for that party). There are some ideas I disagree with them on, but I do hope that libertarian viewpoints start getting brought back into national politics. It's the one reason I was in favor of Ron Paul getting so much attention. Government needs to stay out of our lives and we need to stop wasting so much fucking money.Last edited by pocketkangaroo; 05-25-2008, 11:09 PM.Comment
