See:

http://www.fox6.com/news/local/story...e-8803e516d8a4

Fox 6 anchor Jim Patton spent two full hours with adult film star Dave Cummings, a San Diego dancer and Larry Kaplan of ACE (Adult Club Executives) and did an extremely fair piece. He called the San Diego Police and ran a quote from a vice detective who said "It has been my experience that adult businesses in SD don't require an inordinate number of calls for service."

It basically got floored the other day if I read right, over 150 people from the adult industry went to the hearing, they were shocked we even showed up, the guy who put this forward blabbedy blah blah blah'ed, and admitted he knew pretty much nothing about porn, or our industry.

He was forced to put it away, probably never to be seen again. He couldn't even get it past the first step.

Someone correct me if my ramblings are incorrect

That's more or less accurate -- although I would stop short of saying that the bill will never be seen again. Calderon has proposed this manner of tax before, and I would not be surprised if he does so again.

Bottom line: regulation and/or taxation aimed at adult businesses is a political winner for enough legislators that they will continue to forward such proposals, even if they know their bill is doomed to fail, or destined to be shot down by the courts. For the pols, it's really not about crafting legislation that is useful, needed, wise, fair, or good policy; it's about scoring points with their constituency, and playing to their support base.

I doubt it would ever become anything serious, but just the fact that they keep trying worries me.
