FREE GUIDE: 3 easy steps to remove banner ads from GFY

First of all, I would like to mention that I don't have with regular banners, but when asshole sponsors start adding retarded sound effects that give me seizures or wake my family up at night, damn straight i'm gonna take care of this.

THREE EASY STEPS TO REMOVE ALL BANNERS FROM GFY:

1. OPEN HOSTS FILE IN YOUR TEXT EDITOR (notepad will do)
HOSTS file is loceted in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

2. ADD THE FOLLOWING LINE OF TEXT:
127.0.0.1 ads.gofuckyourself.com

3. SAVE THE FILE

ENJOY YOUR NEW, BANNER-FREE GFY EXPERINCE

just let all ads be on, that is how they get paid. Removing ads when you run sites is kind of lame.

i'm with you, I don't care about banners... but the sound banners that wake up the family or scare me 1/2 to death is just uncalled for and unprofessional. the duke dollars was the worst ever, but thanks to you, they are now all gone.

I've gone with this idea for a long time. However it seems the owners of GFY worry more about their add revenue and crappy page views than the actual community and the users.

There is nothing wrong with adds, we all make a living by them, however some of these banners are annoying as hell. The seizure banner is one (I have no clue who it is because I refresh soon as I see it) Another is the damn boat one. You don't even have to mouse over it, and the damn thing goes off.

I've personally held out quite sometime but I'm about at my last straw as well. This shit is just too much.

In November, you can vote for America's next president or its first dictator.

with adblock plus you can disable it... so anytime you want to see what others are doing just one click, refresh the page, and there ya go...

it's also neat to test it with your own sites... you can get around the filters pretty easily by renaming some of your files...

Anyway, there are plenty of FF extensions or other software that can do the job just as well or better than modifying the hosts file.
The hosts file method is so Win98.

Adblock works only on FF.

I'm using IE 7, loving it and have no reason to swithc to FF.

Either way, it completely removes all GYF banners. The board loads 3x fatser and you don't get any retarded sound effects.

I'm all for GFY making money off of advertising. But if they don't give a shit about their users (allowing these stupid sound effects and seizure banners) than I'm gonna take matter into my own hands and fix it myself.

It easy as hell and takes 10 seconds to fix it.

I think people that make annoying invasive ads are stupid fucks. If they made ads that were nice to look at, funny, or creative, people wouldn't want to block them.

Disabling flash eliminates most all of the annoyances, and speeds things up a lot, plus less browser crashes. Regular gif/jpg ads tend to load fast, and don't bother me.

I don't mind banners because that's how GFY makes their money but they have to do something about the annoying ones. When you're trying to type in the message box below and it's that one with the concentric circles that flashes rapidly and hurts your eyes. That pisses me off. I have to refresh the page just so I can type in that space. Next time I see it I'll pay attention to who it is so I know never to promote them.

Not enough companies' designers put enough effort into them tho...

Even tho it's often the first thing your prospective or new customer sees...
