MAC HAS 8% market share, it is progected to hit 9% in 2009 & 10% in 2010. Direct from businessweek.com a couple of weeks ago.

I'm a PC fanboy, I don't hate macs they are sexy as hell but you won't ever get me buying one.

flashfire 05-21-2008 02:32 AM

obviously because macs are overpriced

Considering they own a nice stake in Apple, it's pretty understandable and not all that far fetched.

The turning point for me was last fall .. when my sons school told us they would be having the kids use ..take home and call their own for the year .. their very own "Laptops" ... well you can imagine my immediate reaction .. I was like wtf .. your going to allow my son .. yes MY SON to carry around all day in his backpack .. to and from school through the day and hell even over the week end, a laptop that I would inevitably be responsible for ..
Well it turns out it was a MacBook ..a little 14" i think .. with a backpack that had a little compartment for th laptop to slide into ..
I end up having to some meeting at the school to "learn" about the laptop he is bringing home and is responsible for .. I then find out this little laptop .. is not brand new.. in fact it had been in some other kids back pack for last year .. and another kid .. the year before .. I was like ... uh wtf ...
Now .. I challenge all PC users to tell me they would feel comfortable putting their laptop in to an 11 year olds back pack for 3 years to go back and forth to school home .. home totally un-supervised for years .. let alone that walk to the family vehicle ..
I was sold instantly .. and have been VERY happy ever since ..

Hmm Ive got a inspiron 8200 that I think is 7 years old, maybe 6 that has been all over the world many times over, been dropped off my desk about 20 times, got various types of drinks spilled all over it, been sat on, had my kids banging on it, used for hard gaming, years upon years of HEAVY HEAVY use, and is still kicking. The only reason I replaced it this year for a tosiba Quismo was because of the weight of the thing, and because the video card wouldnt handle Vista. You can't really say, switch to mac cause they are durable. There are several brands of laptop made for construction sites and for inclimate locations. I think Id go with them for the durability stuff hehe.

haha.. how'd I know you would chime in .. this isn't a panasonic toughbook ..or some other model designed for the military or police .. it is their base model laptop .. not even being marketed as durable .. and I am sure your lappy albeit ancient was probably tough..might have even had a few hd's and reinstalls of the OS to keep it running all those awesome years .. .... .. your missing the point of what I was saying just to justify your cause .. and I could care less... I was just sharing why I switched and that I was happy ..

Funny that you place so much status on laptop type. I bet the "loser" is pulling more wool than all the fanboys - "different" sells on college campuses.

from that article

"Mac Mini

The retail price for the Mac Mini is $599. For this, you get a tiny computer with a 1.83 GHz Core 2 Duo, 1 GB of RAM, Intel GMA 950 graphics processor, yada yada. If you want 2 GB of RAM, the price goes up to $799 (which also comes with a larger hard drive). Now, that is certainly pricey and you can get yourself a better equipped PC tower for about the same amount of money."

jeffrey 05-31-2008 01:21 AM

Even if the stat that Mac has 66% of the over $1000 dollar PC market is true that still means they hold 0% of the under $1000 market.

Stop being a fuckhead on your PC then.
I have spent a total of 0 hours over initial install my programs and stuff that I use since Vista became available. Hell I dont even know if I had to find any drivers on my own, I am pretty sure Vista got everything for me.
I have had no crashes, and no slowdowns.

I have spent 30+ hours in the last year getting wireless networks, printers, cameras and even an ipod to work properly on a Mac for friends.

I was just going to post some very similar stats, mine are all within .2% of yours when I look on my adult domains.
My mainstream sites, mac has under ~3% and other has about 6% and windows the other 91%.

I have said it before and I will say it again. If Mac cut their prices by 50% tomorrow they would have the majority market share in ~18 months, give or take a handful.

Now you make the statement "Thats not an apple campus or anything either" but how do you know? were you in the class? did you take the picture?
From the commentary no one knows where the photo was taken.

So how do you know it wasn't a "So you bought a Mac, Now what" class? and the acer is the TA taking notes for the prof?

So please enlighten me as to how you know for certain it was just a "normal" class.
The University and college I have been to here is dominated by Dell's, probably close to 10:1 to Mac.

Apple has improved dramatically since IPOD release. My MacBook Air is absolutely astonishing, and latest Aperture and Final Cut is a must for photo/video editing.
Since my switch to Mac I work many times faster and safer.
I would pay much higher price for Macs if you take it all from our offices. :)

Well done. You picked the one thing out of their range that comes in at about the same. And of course you can pick up a ugly large noisy beige tower PC for less than an elegantly designed, tiny, silent, mac mini.

Dur.

Microsoft is begging Mac to take marketshare from them because of Vista. I am a die-hard Win XP fan. I have not owned a Mac since the 80's.

I will never buy another Mac ... until the day I am forced to buy Vista ... and that will be the day I buy another Mac.

Microsoft needs to have an emergency meeting about Vista. they should create a barebones version of vista for old school windows/dos fans who prefer performance over functionality.

DomP_nl 05-31-2008 05:54 AM

You do realize that the OVERWHELMINGLY number of people interesting in a computer are intending to spend under $1000.

Your bias shows. Please use logic throw out emotion. I know you being in a cult it's hard to use logic.

If Jobs thinks Mac OSX is the best OS then he'd sell it to ALL computer owners like MS does with it's OS. Hell I might be interested in using it. I however am not buying a Mac to do it. Would Apple like SOME money from me or NONE? I do not like apple hardware. PC are more upgradable and are cheaper. After over 25 years Jobs still doesn't get it. Why should I buy products from a guy who has had his head in the sand for 25 years and refuses to see the light?

If you have Vista running on a machine you have to buy a new license everytime you upgrade your system. Yes, even new hard drives, mother boards, ram. You have to buy a new copy of Vista as your previous license expires on each modification of your set up. :winkwink:

FALSE!

Get your head out of your ass.
My one Vista box has had a major upgrade 3 times now. Started as an AMD 3200, went to an AM2 mobo and AMD X2 6400+ and now to an intel quad. Between those complete changes I have added hard drives to each one, which were recognized the instant I booted, I just put a new video card in it, again windows recognized it right away, and I went from 1 to 4gb ram on the X2 system with widows recognizing the change right away.
The major upgrades were fresh installs. and the minor additions did not require fiddling or driver hassle at all.

My other vista box, which I am on now is an AM2, started as an X2 3800, I put the 6400 from the other box into this one, again no fiddling to make it work, it just worked. Its been through 3 different video cards, and went from 2gb of slow cheap ass ram to 4gb of much faster ram.

Neither box has hung or crashed for me. Neither box has had any of these vista problems I hear people that have never run vista bitch about.
I have been a Mac user in the past, and I put some serious thought into buying a MBP instead of the XPS 1530 I ended up with, but I could get much more from the dell for damn near half the price of the MBP.

Is this true? If you mean by the license checker thing calling home, then you're not supposed to have licensed software on >1 puter if it's a single-user license. OK, OS X doesn't phone home (as such).

I've never used Vista, but I've run XP on OSX through VMWare Fusion and it isn't that bad, though it is annoying all the popups and shit it keeps throwing at me. OS X on new hardware is great, but (I guess like Vista, but maybe less so), it's a resource hog. I much preferred Classic (pre-OS X), but then that always crashed when 3rd party extensions conflicted with OS extensions.

Honestly, it's to each his own. I couldn't give a rats ass for fanboys or Windows whatsits. Use what you like and/or are productive in. If you can't afford a Mac (edit: but would like one, then too bad save up and), then buy a $500 Windows machine. If you like Windows, but can't stand Mac, why? If you tried it and hated it, then just go back to Windows. But stfu already, it really doesn't matter what you use :thumbsup.

Unless of course you're comparing penis sizes, in which case mine is the one drooped over my Macbook :Oh crap
