The adult industry is like a mosh pit. Most people go into it to let loose and have a good time, get down to biz in the pit, but there's a few who step in with bad intentions. Everyone is winging arounf and thrashing, they bump into each other. Sometimes someone gets kicked in the head by accident, sometimes it's not so accidental. You've got to keep your head up and in the game though, or you might catch an elbow or a knee, or some skid's combat boot in the jaw. It's good to have a couple buddies who have your back keeping their eyes open too. But really int he end, it's every man for himself, and you'd better be watching your ass. So while everybody is carelessly bouncing off one another, and doing their thing and you come into the pit with bad intentions, and get caught in the act throwing an intentional punch on someone who not looking, you might just wind up being the one getting stomped...

So treat it like a pit. Come in and rumble, find some people you can slam with, keep some buddies around, keep your head up and don't do anything stupid. Keep your eyes open for cheap shots, and don't be the prick who's throwing them...

In any industry there's lines of ethics crossed or not. I think there's less of it in adult.

Can you make money anyway even if you're an unethical fuck?

Absolutely. There's people and programs out there that we barely know of or see on the boards because short of calling them out, they're not involved or don't give a shit for "the community".

But what ethics will do is buy you respect. In the end, whether it's the DoJ knocking on your door or your ex-wife's lawyer grabbing you by the nuts and leaving you with nothing but a domain name, the backing and support you'll get from the rest of us depends on who and how many you've fucked over.

The road you choose is the ethics you use. Whether you walk it alone is up to you.

That said, knowing there's bullshit sonsabitches in every area (though I think adult has less than mainstream), everything being equal, yaddayadda, I'd still pick adult to work in.
