    TMM Insider - Volume 1, Issue 1

This went out about a week ago to all clients, but I figured I would post it here. This will be a regular mailing which will as time goes on contain a more and more extensive bugfix/additions list, and a lot of other goodies and announcements. We will also soon allow anyone to subscribe if they are not a client.

    ---------------------------------------------

    TMM Insider - Volume I, Issue 1

    RECENT NEWS

Too Much Media is launching its newsletter to all our customers! Enclosed you'll find information about upcoming events, what we've added to products, as well as anything we are in the process of working on. This newsletter is meant for you, OUR CUSTOMER, so we NEED your input! If there is something you think should be included, please let us know! (submission details below)

At Too Much Media, the safety and integrity of our clients' information is of the utmost importance to us. To ensure that you have a strong and safe password, we have recently changed all user passwords to conform with our stringent requirements. If you are having trouble accessing our ticket system as a result of this, you can visit http://clients.toomuchmedia.com/forgotpass.php and a new password will be sent to the e-mail address on file. If you are still having trouble, please contact Michelle via ICQ - 215542318 or via telephone (732) 385-1536 ext. 1116. We are available 10:00AM - 5:30PM EST Monday - Friday. Please remember not to give your password to anyone, and that a Too Much Media representative will NEVER ask you for your password to our client management system.

Representatives from Too Much Media will be on-hand in Manhattan, New York for the Webmaster Access show at the W-Hotel on May 14th, 15th, and 16th. If you are in the area for this event, we invite you to stop by to meet our crew and take a look at what we have in development for the coming months! Also, we will have live demonstrations of all our latest products, including CARMA and NATS v4.0!

RECENT FEATURE ADDITIONS & BUG FIXES

    NATS

ENCRYPTED E-MAILS - As part of our continuing effort to provide the most secure affiliate software, NATS now encrypts all email addresses before storing them in the NATS database. This additional layer of protection will help prevent anyone from viewing email addresses from anywhere except the NATS admin.

STREAMATE INTEGRATION - We are constantly providing alternative ways for you and your affiliates to convert traffic into sales. We have recently added StreaMate as an integrated third-party content provider in NATS.

MULTI-BYTE CHARACTER SUPPORT - We have recently received a number of requests regarding this feature. As a result, we have recently made changes to our back-end to allow you to pick the character set used in your NATS database.

CREDITS/CHARGEBACKS STATS FIX - We recently fixed a bug that prevented credit/chargeback statistics to be displayed correctly to affiliates in certain rare cases.

ENHANCED WEBMASTER REFERRAL REPORTS - There is a new Webmaster Referral template function that expands on the current Webmaster Referral system. With this upgrade, you can provide more detailed information to your affiliates such as the number of referrals an affiliate has made, the number of sales for each of the referred affiliates, and the income generated off of the referred affiliate's sales. This also works for account reps as well!

    CARMA

MOBILE ACCESS TO CARMA SITES - We're happy to tell you about a new feature that allows you to have your CARMA sites viewable on many major mobile devices that do not support cookies or session. This is accomplished by disabling the session requirement in your CARMA tour/members areas.

VIDEO DETECTION BUG FIX - A bug has been found and fixed where the "NO FFMPEG" option was ignored in certain cases while scanning for videos or creating extra thumbnails.

EXTENDED DELETION OPTIONS - CARMA now allows you to choose whether or not the actual content file(s) are deleted when you delete a content set from the CARMA admin.

If you are interested in utilizing any of these features, please submit a ticket at http://clients.toomuchmedia.com and one of our technicians will upgrade you to the latest version of our software.

    ON THE HOTPLATE

NATS v4.0 - In-House testing is almost complete on NATS version 4.0! We are very excited and the initial feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. We will keep you up to date on our progress as we move closer to a full-blown release.

CCBILL MULTI-CURRENCY SUPPORT - A number of requests have recently come in for this and we have responded! We have a new version of NATS 3.1 (currently in beta) that handles the major currencies allowed by CCBill's regional billing feature. If you are interested in being a beta-tester for this feature, please place a ticket at http://clients.toomuchmedia.com

BILLER INTEGRATIONS - As always, we are constantly adding new billers and payment processors to our expanding and extensive list of supported third parties. If you don't see your biller in our lists, please let us know!

    TMM INSIDER TIP

Finding Smarty Variables - Have you ever been customizing a template, and you can't find that single variable you need anywhere in the documentation? If you use {debug} anywhere in your template, Smarty will create a pop-up window that list every variable available to that particular template. To take advantage of this, you would add something like the following to your template:
    {if $smarty.request.debug} {debug} {/if}
Then to view the pop-up, add debug=1 to the end of the URL of your page. Just remember to disable pop-up blocking on your Web browser when using this feature. Also, don't forget to remove the {debug} line once you're finished so outside parties don't stumble upon it.

    FEEDBACK

Is there something that you would like to see here on this newsletter? Have an idea for Tip of the Day? If so, then contact the editor at kevin.wetter/@\toomuchmedia/\com
Thought of a new feature that you think would benefit all of our clients? If so, please submit a ticket at http://clients.toomuchmedia.com

As far as comebacks are concerned, this one ranked fairly high.

Oh snap. I like bugfixes. Those are good.

I'm working on implementing a user match for a member's area which confirms the user info before allowing them to do an arbitrary upgrade, and I'm a little flummoxed by the biller password encryption scheme. This is obviously a reversable format; can I find a comparison routine in helper.php anywhere?

It's gonna be a config var. Just keeps someone from getting it easily if someone gets a hold of a table dump. Kinda.. pointless, in my opinion, but, hey.

hope so, and hoping it's a var/key that's readable cos when nats is not installed on the same server as say a support site, it's kinda hard to do include a nats file to be able to decrypt the email address.

Still, so long as a custom script could be made on the nats install to include the nats stuff to be able to decrypt the passwords, then it's all work-aroundable.

However, I'm with you - kinda pointless when you have mysql locked down to non-authorised IPs, which everyone should have anyway.

                                                              This is of course optional.

I really don't believe it is pointless. This is in place to try to help prevent email theft should someone gain access to mysql or a shell on the server. Every little bit helps and we want to do all we can to be as secure as possible. It is optional if you wish to not use it.

                                                              Also...

We have come up with a secure way to give a helper function to decrypt the emails if you'd like one for your helper scripts. Each client's emails are encrypted with a unique key. If you'd like, you can receive an encoded file with a function to decrypt both member and affiliate emails which is specific to your install. This can also of course be IP restricted. The function is called to encrypt (for search purposes) or decrypt a member or affiliate email. The IP restriction can also be setup to allow certain IPs to only be allowed to encrypt or decrypt and only be allowed to for members or affiliates (4 total combinations).

If you'd like to enable the encryption and/or get this helper script for your install please submit a ticket.
