You can only do the street view in the USA and some parts of Canada. It wont let you do it over Europe or other countries
|
btw didn't Google tell the US gov to go fuck itself when they asked for all that surf data?
If the Google 360cam catches you beating your girlfriend through an open window and someone spots it on street view... too bad, you should've shut the blinds. i say it's admissible. |

You live in a country that has given up a few of these personal privacy priviledges for the sake of some false security concept and I feel bad for the good people I know over there who have to deal with it. But take it from me, no one will give a fuck if one month's street view shows you or mowing your lawn... and from what I've seen they're blurring faces anyhow. They're not blurring plates though, but then again who cares... unless you weren't supposed to be on the misstress's street when you said you were at the dentist's. But then, this stuff isn't dated... again, what is the biggie? |
Property owners own all the air space they can use above their property. Since google has proven that the owner can use space above their homes to take pictures google does not have the right to use that space anymore.
At least that is what some people are saying. Quote:

There was a neighbourhood kid who peeped through a crack in the curtains and saw them. He went and told his dad. His dad came over with a video camera (peeping all along through that space in the curtains). Apparently they were prosecuted for corrupting a minor or indecent exposure or some shit. I can understand your concern. However if the Google 360cam can spot your pumping butt from the middle of a street through a window, it might just be due to the fact that maybe you want to expose yourself? |
someone is angry.

the street view is questionable also if its used to sell ads.

How does Google maps generate a current on st image of a address? Not sure how the hell they do it!
For example if you type in a st address on Google it will show you at st level what that st looks like almost like your looking threw a windshield of a car. |
I feel these street-view images are terrible. You can see it so clear! whether in the street or in the homes. As I know they drive a van with a whole bunch of video cameras down every street, so we can then view the images online. Oh! I hope to be the driver, that's easy job. :)

Don't close your blinds? It's YOUR fault you get seen... especially by Google Cam - have you tried peeping into the windows on Haight Ashbury in San Fran on the Google Maps Streetview?!?! Or anywhere? If you get seen you're working it man. And if you just get seen by a dozen people walking by, well you just might get busted for being a profligate exhibitionist. Sonny Barger there (sorry, I mean, Baddog) is right - it's no big deal. But I'm Canadian and I live in a country where there's a measure of restraint in even public exposure/media coverage and "security" monitoring. And even so, I don't think this Googlecam business is such a big deal. You don't wear a hood when you mow your lawn? You don't need anonymity? You mow the thing because you want it to look good PUBLICALLY, right? It's not violation of privacy because it's not 24/7 or monitoring - it's a snapshot. If it was dated and it caught you parked at your girlfriend's while your wife was in labor, it means your a shithead. . You live in the USA. |
All I can say is that I really wouldn't care. For the most part it's stuff that everyone walking down the street could easily see.
|
Ok, thanks for your contributions, especially to baddog.. Fuck you all, I’m going back to my Molson Ice and hockey games. See you in 1 hour.

This is an awesome tool feared only by unjustified paranoia.
I have used it many times to check driving directions so I have been there before I've actually been there. Eventually there will be a permanent archive of how every neighborhood looks. Your great-great-great-great grandkids will be able to look this stuff up. This technology is a part of history. |

Mockba you should come over to the UK and you cant even walk down the road without being watched by CCTV camera's and they even talk to you in some countys. They are not just in city centers any more, but they are now in residential streets small villages. They reckon that you are caught by over 300 cameras in one day If you are a city center. Privacy does not exist any more

I don't see anything wrong with the general idea, but once you get some tricky algorithms that are able to recognise objects, words, even faces to a certain extent, then everything starts linking together.
There was a site that was (is?) in beta that has a toolbar which allows you to tag people in any photo appearing on your screen, and if it recognises that face in another image it will pop up the name. To everyone using the toolbar. I believe it also lets you find other images of the same face. THAT'S the sort of thing you need to worry about, this type of reverse indexing that makes it very easy to find data about a specific person... |
