(VIDEO) How much can you make in porn? And should you send reps to shows?

Adult Insights Ep 19 Video

This is our second kick-at-the-can when it comes to how much people "think" you can make working in online adult. Here are some thoughts from Benoit from Express Pro, Dwreck from Webcam Cash, Elli from Streamray / Cams.com, HoneLynn from High Def Riches, Jay D from CrazyShit/FetishLoot, Monika from MonikaMaple.com and Vic from Kick Ass Pictures.

Some faves:
Benoit: "The gay side will be less than the straight side..."
Jay D: "You could be making the same amount of money in a brokerage firm"
Ken: "For an affiliate manager for one of the larger companies... 45k and up"
Monika: "Models can get paid anything... if you deserve it"

Then we get some opinions on what value comes from sending reps to shows. Dirty D from How I Got Rich, Avalanche from Cherry Pimps, Jay D from CrazyShit, Kenny B from IA Cash, Scott from Traffic Dude and Rob Waters from Live Bucks all weigh in.

SponsorsList sends special thanks to Yappo Dollars for their support.

How much can a newbie expect to make? Is the cost of sending reps to shows justified by the business brought back?

Hi Doug,

Just wanted to let you know that I haven't missed an Adult Insight Episode since you've been posting them. This was a great idea that gives those looking from the outside in or those considering entering the business some real world information from those that have experienced the industry as well as live in it every day.

Outstanding series that I recommend to anyone that wants to know some of the REALITY of the business and not all the HYPE!

Nice work Doug

I think I was earning about 35k + joins when I was working as a rep. It really depends on the company... and location, I would think.

Not low at all really. Im sure you would be shocked to see the profit margin for most of the proggies on this board. Much lower than they make out.

Nice video. Although the first 3 mins are people just saying "man... I don't know... a lot or a little?" That is pretty accurate sadly. You just never know. In the IRC room I hang out in I've seen so many people come in and try to re-invent the wheel for their first site instead of just using wordpress or buying babelogger or something that already exists. They never last. Or they quit when they don't make $$ in the first month.

The last three mins were interesting for me as an affiliate because I've been considering going to a conference but I've heard that low-end affiliates don't get a lot of love. They may get a t-shirt or two. Hell, I like t-shirts I can't wear in public as much as the next guy. What's there to do at the conferences for the little guy?

That's what I was thinking... conferences can be $$$, especially if you include the mini-bar

That's true... a lot of people don't know how much you can make. There are just so many factors, but it's good to hear others confirm that it's not an easy road to money... at least not any more. There were some other interesting answers to this same question in the first episode we did.

And I don't know how much truth there is to smaller affiliates not getting enough out of conferences. At the smaller shows you get tons of face time if you want it. You may not get invited out to a dinner or have a sponsor keep a t-shirt aside for you, but shows should never be about that, anyway, right? And there's plenty of years to get invited to dinners/parties down the line.
