Spammer Convicted of Federal Wire Fraud!

These guys seem to be harvesting email addresses to use as return addresses on their spam. Many members of this board have been victimized by these spammers. If you are victimized you can expect hundreds of bounced messages from servers, you email blocked by spam filters, and your business reputation in the toilet.

Here is a link to a recent conviction:

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23641660/

Perhaps, we should go after these guys like we are going after the content pirates.
    1. Charge them with identity theft.
    2. Charge them with wire fraud.
    3. Seek damages resulting from loss of email access and reputation.

    Food for thought.

After the Government is done cleaning him out there won't be anything left for you to go after. It's the reality.

It's not this guy he wants.

If someone is forging headers and using your email, he thinks you should report it to the police department.

My point was that a precedent has been created that holds spammers financially and criminally liable for the damages they cause.

If the feds can go after the biggest spammer, maybe we can persuade the locals to go after someone who has done us damage too.

For a local prosecuter, taking down a technically savy spammer might look good on the ol' resume.

A legal roadmap that any attorney can follow for bringing charges and seeking damages against a spammer now exists.

I'm sure spammers are going to slam this post as a bad idea

"Soloway has agreed to take a polygraph test as to his remaining assets."

                    Interesting...

"Prosecutors said Soloway made hundreds of thousands of dollars from his spamming business"

wtf? I would think "the spam king" would make millions, if not 10s of millions...

The tide is turning on spammers in the USA.

Here is another link to the actual Virginia Supreme court decision upholding the felony spam conviction of a spammer in Virginia. Looks like he got nine years in the slammer:

I don't like spam as much as the next guy. Thunderbird keeps it pretty much under control, and I HATE when they use my domains as the contact info, but really..... 9 years for spamming? You guys think that's right? I don't understand this country and it's lock 'em up mentality. Sure, give 'em 2 or 3 years, but the last thing I want my taxes spent on is to lock up a spammer for 9 fucking years. 2lbs of meth - sure... 9 years sounds good.... spamming???? Fuck... what a waste of money and prison space.

Sorry, sometimes my liberal side gets the best of me. Hand me my pitchfork, and I'll fall back in line. Mob rules.
