They recently had a push here in Ontario to raise the age to 21. The current age is 19.

I guess years ago it was 18 but they said there were problems with students showing up drunk at school, so they raised it to 19.

That at least makes sense, but I have no idea why they would want to change it to 21 now.

Needless to say it didn't get passed.

I think the more sensible thing would be to allow bars to stay open all night if they want, that way there isn't a big rush at 2 AM with all the drunks pouring out onto the street and trying to get cabs all at the same time. Would cut down on fighting for sure.

Yep. Either lower it to 18 or raise the enlistment age to 21. Hopefully these state have the balls to tell the federal government to take their piddly 10% and fuck off. And if the government takes away the 10% those states should stop giving the feds their part of the gas tax.

yeah... I think it takes more responsibility to hold a gun than a beer :2 cents:

I agree, but that is too logical. Plus I really liked watching funny drunk canadian guys beat each other up before grabbing a couple slices of pie in Brockville. Canadian girls are quite fun as well.

That's how it is where I live, right outside of New Orleans.

What the 24 hour drinking does, here in a small town, is it creates a complete other level of society. A really fucking ugly one that lives at night, and doesn't do much in the daytime.

Maybe in some places like NY that works, but some places it should not be ok. I live in the fucking bible belt by a catholic school with little church ladies, but then there is this creepy element that pops up in the middle of the night. I hear them walkingbeing loud and drunk at night, on holiday weekends, like zombies... they need a fucking curfew and I would vote for it. Drunks dont know how to stop sometimes.

I think it should STAY 21 here in the States because what's gonna happen is that people drinking is gonna go from 18-20 year old people illegally drinking to 15-17 year old people illegally drinking which I think would be MORE of a problem.

Haha, it's fun to stand around after the bars close and watch all the shit go down for an hour or so.

It's still safe enough around here that you don't have to worry much about weapons coming out, just some good drunken brawls... mostly white college students trying to perform moves they seen on the UFC.

There's always one guy who thinks he can do a roundhouse kick.:winkwink:

The AVERAGE 21 year old American is too immature to be drinking. 18 is simply stupid.

Well then we should ban drinking all together. Sorry when I was 16, 17 I had no problem drinking even though the age was 21. what's ironic is that I drank MORE on average from 16-20 than I did after I turned 21 when I could get it whenever I wanted.

I was one of the ones that got fucked back in 1984 when they changed it to 21. All my buddies that were just a little bit older were able to drink at 18. I had to wait till I was 21.

(like i really waited) lol

WASHINGTON, April 3 (UPI) -- Seven U.S. states are contemplating changing their laws to allow residents younger than 21 years to drink alcohol, officials said.

Kentucky, Wisconsin and South Carolina are considering laws to change the drinking age only for members of the military, ABC News reported Thursday. Missouri, South Dakota, Vermont and Minnesota are debating laws that would allow all residents to take advantage of the lower required age.

Kentucky state Rep. David Floyd, R-Bardstown, who said he thinks the legal drinking age should be 18, told ABC News that military personnel exhibit their ability to handle alcohol-drinking responsibilities while serving their country.

States considering changing drinking ages face losing as much as 10 percent of federal highway funding because of the 1984 Uniform Drinking Age Act, which threatens to pull funding if states lower legal drinking ages below 21.

Advocates for lowering drinking ages argue that the act is outdated and binge drinking and drunken driving would be less of a problem for the United States if the drinking age were lowered.

This is nothing new as the age has been lowered before and teenage deaths skyrocketed (primarily auto deaths...but other causes as well) so the age was raisded again. BTW...the military does not want it raised because of DUI's and auto related deaths.

I'm not saying that there's not younger people drinking already, I'm saying that IF it's lowered, there's gonna be a LOT more of it going on.

Think of it this way, how much easier it'd be if you just had to find someone 18+ to buy alcohol for ya back in the day ??

Basically.

G.A.F 04-17-2008 07:42 AM

I think 18 is old enough to drink and to drive (not at the same time obviously). :pimp
At least with 18, they can go to jail if they kill or hurt someone when driving. You can't allow a child to drive if then you are not allowing to put him in jail if he kills someone.

16 years-old should be forbidden to drive alone. They should get allowed to drive ONLY if they go with a 21 years-old or older next to them.
In Andorra, they can drive that way. And not any adult can be by his side. Only a tutor or a parent that signed when the guy got his license. He should get another licence whe he becomes of age. :)

Going by that they should have also raised the age for buying porn mags to 21 so 15 year olds couldn't get 18 year olds to buy them porn.

Fact is it wasn't hard to find any adult of any age to buy you some beer if you gave them a few $ for the effort.

Fcat is if you don't want 16 and 17 year olds driving drunk raise the driving age to 18 like it should be anyways.

cthulhu_waves 04-17-2008 08:04 AM

18 is old enough he can do what he wants

raven1083 04-17-2008 08:06 AM

18 is old enough to explore the outside world!
