Anyone else getting sick of Canadians and Americans complaining about gas prices?

I mean for one, if you choose to drive gas is part of the package folks!
And you should take a look at what they are paying for gas in Europe.

Take a look at the UK for example -

Today's national averages
Petrol
1.07 p/litre
Diesel
1.16 p/litre

These prices are in pounds sterling which means they are paying $2.16 Canadian per litre for petrol and $2.34 per litre for diesel.

Stop whining already!

Gas prices do suck, but since I don't drive I couldn't care less most of the time, I'm more likely to complain about the size of the puddles on the sidewalk when i walk to the office. It's pretty funny that gas is priced higher in Europe than USA/Canada, when Europeans are actually closer to the source...I guess the USA gets a small discount in exchange for the billions of dollars in bombs, etc it's dumped on the region..

You lost me at this point. Choose to drive?
As opposed to what? Walking my son down the highway for a couple of weeks solid to get to his doctor's appointments?

Driving isn't a choice for most people. It's a necessity. This is why they can put the gas prices at any level they wish because we have no choice but to pay them.

My wife commutes to school, 50 miles each way 4 days a week.
Drives a BMW 3 series.

So we end up paying around $500 a month in gas now, versus 2 years ago was 250-300
For me, I don't give a shit.. 250 whatever. But for the average american and cdn family, that's a big deal and the difference between eating or not.

so average of 100 mile commute per day...in stop/go traffic

average of about 4-5 gallons per day at almost $4 per gallon

$80 per week....$320 per month

and thats very conservative for most people living in the suburbs of major cities,...driving normal cars....drive an SUV? then you're looking at 600$ a month for gas minimum

and thats if you only drive to work & back

you guys wonder why sales are so shitty? just wait until this summer

Even though your gas prices are higher, you don't have to drive an hour and a half to get from one city to the next. You'd be going from one country to the next. Also, there are a lot of rural communities that don't have public transit.

It's more disgusting that the automakers CHOOSE to make gas guzzlers and spend billions advertising them as part of some fantasy kick-ass sexual lifestyle and people are just the wonderful suckers that we know them to be.

Marketing & Advertising for the win!

Also look at the gridlock traffic on a daily basis in every major city probably in the world not to mention the pollution to the environment. Also one of the worst investments you can make. Soon as you drive those wheels off the lot it's downhill from there!

I own a car, and now park it because it's too expensive to drive.

I wanted it to go away on weekends in the summer, but fuck paying like $20-30 just to take a little trip for a hike or whatever.

$300/m insurance, $400/m gas, $130/mo parking at work, $50/mo parking at home, ~$100/mo for maintenance.

So that's what.. $980 a month to drive, give or take a bit depending on how much I drive..

Fuuuck thaaat.. and I own my car

Whats your solution? If everyone that could took public transit, that would break the system. They rely on only a % of people using it.

so u would have no problem paying twice as much for a car thats slow, has no place to gas up / or doesnt go that far and needs a long as time to charge, and causes generally 2-5times more hassle?

what automakers make is largely consumer driven. look at their engine selections between europe and america...

ive actully been working something out as a business expense
car vs a taxi

and its actully cheaper to travel by taxi, if your car cost over a set amount (roughly 10k)
There are alot of other variables in it and not really to do with oil, but makes you think.

So will higher gas prices result in a change in the American landscape? Will people start to live closer to their work? Will small towns come back into vogue?

It would be different if the Country had a mass transit system. Yeah some cities do, but in general it isn't very covenant in most cities. And anywhere outside of a 'major city', you are screwed.

Our mass transit systems are trash compared to what most of Europe has. We have no train system worthy of even talking about. Everyone drives a lot more, so even if the Euro prices are higher, we still spend more in gas.

Because I live in Canada and the insurance guys are buddy buddy with the government officials. Also it's my first year being insured, so they tax you extra first year. Even after that it will be at least $200 a month. Never been in an accident, no tickets, and I'm 27 years old now.

we have the technology to build for example electric cars...

but the people who rule the world also own the oil companys... so they wanna suck out as much money as they can on oil... too bad oil destroys our planet! but they just care about money...fucked up.

AND electric cars aint have to be dorky like the car posted above... they can design them with whatever look...

Here is a clip of a electric car racing a ferrari and a porche... it takes them to school!
https://youtube.com/watch?v=BqqtJpfZElQ

They could allready do cars like these, but they wanna make cash on OIL AND DESTROY THE WORLD INSTEAD. Fuckin idiots, cant understand that the people accept this

How much of your final price is the result of taxes? Our gas does have taxes but probably not as high a percentage as yours ....... apples/oranges

I have a 1999 Mazda Millenia S, supercharged etc, premium gas. My buddy said he gassed up today at $1.14 for regular gas in Toronto

Hopefully in June when my year is up it will drop dramatically.. Also my insurance was the cheapest I could find, other companies were talking $500+

I tried to signup with Mint, looked sweet.. But they don't support Canadian banks yet.

I now use Mvelopes.com, they support something like 12,000 banks, and all my banks were there.

Kinda funny, I used to never check my accounts, but now that I have them all in one place I check them all the time.

I also opened up my mail the other day, found $125 in gift certificates I ordered and forgot about, and a letter saying a $450 check from someone bounced, had no idea.. If you're not opening your mail, maybe you should!

The worst part of the gas prices, is the fact that any 'insider' can just make up bullshit about 'possible' shortages to inflate the price, then weeks later come out and report how they have a huge surpluss, and the price goes down.

Basically, Big Oil can say whatever they want to get the price to inflate. Couple that with them earning record profits, and not doing a fucking thing to maintain and upgrade refineries so there is no downtime.

Either way, if it gets much more expensive, it'll affect what I do over the summer in regards to trips, etc.

Who me? I'm all for alternative energies. But my main gripe is that 12 years ago I bought a car off the lot that gets about 32 mpg city driving, and 40mpg highway driving. It's a simple 4 cylinder double overhead cam combustion engine that runs on standard grade gasoline.

Can you find me some links to those cars that are 2008 models with those numbers? Non hybrid, non electric. Just normal. And why? Consumers demanded poor mileage? Thats like telling people they have to lobby to let a law expire. Doesnt work that way. Is it being a responsible corporate citizen to move away from energy conservation? Where's the investigative reporting on connections between engine makers and oil companies? We assume it doesnt take place?

But personally, I fill up about once a year because I moved to a spot where my travel is only about a mile a week. My gasoline bill so far in 2008 is $36. Put an extra fucking cupholder in a car with an efficient engine for christs sake is all I'm saying. Let consumer market drive *that* stuff, not fuel efficiency. It's point A to point B safely. The rest is fluff.

Take a look at the UK for example -

Today's national averages
Petrol
1.07 p/litre
Diesel
1.16 p/litre

These prices are in pounds sterling which means they are paying $2.16 Canadian per litre for petrol and $2.34 per litre for diesel.

Stop whining already!
I'd like a litre cola.

and thats if you only drive to work & back

you guys wonder why sales are so shitty? just wait until this summer
also factor in that the higher gas prices cause prices of everything else to go up as well...grocery prices go higher because transportation costs go up...this causes restaurant prices to go up as well...entertainment prices, etc.

Lol, that's just a dumb statement.

If you guys spend more $$ on gas is because you have cars that consume a lot.

People commute pretty much everywhere in the world.

And you guys have one of the cheapest gas around.

Can you find me some links to those cars that are 2008 models with those numbers? Non hybrid, non electric. Just normal. And why?
Because you were the only guy who bought it so they quit making them. Seriously if we all bought cars like that, they would sell cars like that.
