Has anyone seen many of these? I just came across a Versign flash ad (468x80 variety) with the sounds of a drag race in it. Dear God I hope this isn't the future of advertising, and if it is I hope it dosen't take too long for a patch to come out to stop any shit in Internet Explorer with sound. I wanna hear my Mp3's, not some shitty Ad, grr.

i think ads with sound are ok as long as they are based on user input - not automatically playing racing sounds that make you look where they're coming from..

surfers hate pop-ups and pop-unders too, and last i heard they're still around. (can't tell myself, mozilla blocks them all).

damn, how I despise those 'talking' ads.

It's all to do with choice. That I have to listen to it without my permission makes it all the more irritating. If I clicked on it, then its caveat emptor otherwise forget it.

At the risk of opening up a can of worms, I have many opinions about the talking ads I'd like to share. This is a project I worked on many years ago and sadly enough the purefuck ads are still around. I got to interview and record tons of chicks and write scripts and overall it was probably still one of the most annoying projects my boss ever had me work on.

It's a trade-off between losing bookmark traffic (and even link trades) and an amazing increase in conversion ratios. The first time I tried them on TomKat and Adult Pyramid, we were trying to find a way to make some money with our damn traffic and as those of you who run TGPs know, there's not many things you can do to get people to click and convert except try new things a couple times a week....well this was definitely new and let me just say my signups quadrupled for several weeks when i put up the audio ads. Not only did my regular banners get their usual 1000 clicks and 1 signup (if i'm lucky) a day, but in addition I got an extra 2000 clicks a day over to purefuck and an average of 4 signups which meant more money on my *existing* traffic which meant to me the ads were hugely successful! anyday i can quadruple my income, even if it's an annoying audio ad, i'm usually down for that....

Perhaps I lost some bookmarkers (i know i stopped using speakers that day and have a computer just for music now) and i know it's embarassed quite a few people at school, with the wife, etc. even i got busted by my roommates one time. but let's face the facts, if these people want free porn, then they're gonna have to deal with popunders, popups, mouse traps, moving ads, audio ads and other marketing ploys some of the time.....one more incentive to go buy a real membership as far as i see it....
