FreeBSD/unix: catch 22 situation?
My FreeBSD 6.3 box panicked, now I'm unable to mount one of the drives.
crawler# mount /dev/ad8 /mnt mount: /dev/ad8: Operation not permitted Apr 10 05:12:24 crawler kernel: WARNING: R/W mount of /mnt denied. Filesystem is not clean - run fsck crawler# fsck /dev/ad8 fsck: Could not determine filesystem type crawler# mount -r /dev/ad8 /mnt (this is a read only mount, it works - I can see directories and files) So the problem is: I can't mount it read/write until it's fsck'd, but I'm unable to fsck it Fscking hell! What the fsck I do? ![]() The data is redundant/expendable but I'm more concerned about the fact that I seem to have suddenly lost a usable file system... |

btw, try specifying the file system type with a switch during fsck
man fsck |
