You have way more flexibility without a spouse and definitely without kids. I have a 14 and 5 yr old and there have been so many opportunities that I have passed up because it would affect them by moving, changing job or schools, losing friends. If I was single I would have gotten more done, no doubt about it. Of course I do love my kids so it has all been worth it, but I still have those "what ifs" in the back of my mind sometimes.

If your wife works and brings in as much as you do, then being married would get you to retirement quicker as you could live off one of your salaries.
If your wife stays home, then you are working for her retirement. If you have children then you, will be out of $250,000 by the time they turn 18 on average. Money magazine ran an article, about a couple, who retired when they turned 50, because they didn't have children.

That depends on how wasteful you are with your funds. You get less of a tax writeoff, but you may spend less.
