I just made a bank transfer to a photographer in Poland. Our combined transfer fees were over $73 on an invoice of $600.

Is there a cheaper method?

Did you check out a service like western union???

Most likely you got the best deal

Or you could use someone like Epassport or maybe Payoneer.

Your bank is ripping you off.

In most banks you won't pay more than 20-25 bucks, just make sure you got the entire information about the recipient's account, including SWIFT code (banks take additional charge if you don't include this info).

I usually pay ~$15 for international wire transfers, any size.

Screw Western Union, more people should use MoneyGram, pricing is much better for exactly the same service. Sending $600 from the US to Poland into euros costs $14.99 and the exchange rates aren't ridiculous like WU. And yes, they're everywhere -- we use it all the time down here in Latin America.
