Some recent weird ass attitudes have got me thinking. What percent of the GFY posters would you say are living in poverty ?

Poverty, for the purpose of this discussion, is defined as having less than $10 of personally disposable funds every day.

So, if your mortgage is 1000, your car payments 350 and your debt 150, and bills and other shit 800, alimony 500 and you're making 2850 a month, you do live in poverty.

Im not living in poverty but not making enough to make me rush to buy a $100k car.

From my first years experience I would say a few are making huge amounts of $$$$$$ and some of the bigger players who you would expect to be making lots are not.

You would be surprised at some of the high flying names that are struggling but that goes for a lot of industries.

We do just fine,
But then again unlike many I have a plan, I invest heavily in our retirement, paid of my house by the age of 38 have bought investment property and have cash and assests in the bank.
I have not gotten rich from porn but I cant complain either .
I have no doubt many here live day to day, that said there are a lot of bright people here who if they play there cards right their day will come.

But, then, I also don't agree with your definition of poverty.

What, exactly, is "personal disposable?" Is that money that someone would blow on going out to lunch? I mean, I have that money, too... but instead of opting to spend it on sushi, I brown-bag it, and put a few extra bucks in the "wedding fund" for that day to make my fiancee happy. And the cash I blew on groceries I wouldn't consider "personal disposable."

And what about the guy that's investing in a house instead of living in an apartment like me? He has an extra $500 a month, but instead of putting it to his wedding fund, he's putting it toward a real estate investment. Yet, because he's having his money work for him, he's living in "poverty?"

And what about car payments? I mean, I know this guy who takes the bus everywhere he goes... and he does it so he able to have more money on-hand - no car payment, no gas, no insurance... so the guy always has a fat bankroll in his wallet, but he makes considerably less than me a year.... yet, by your definition, I'm living in poverty, and he's not?

I'm also paying my way through college... but that's a bill, too, right? I mean, it's an investment, and investments are bills, right?

In 2007, the U.S. placed the poverty line for a individual at $10,210 a year. I'm confident that I'll be declaring more than that when I finish my taxes this weekend.... but, at this point in my life, I'd rather tighten the belt a little bit right now every step that I'm able, and reap the rewards down the road - and I don't consider myself living a life of poverty just because of that mentality.

After all beeing paid I have around $80/day to myself, so I am no way near where I wanna be but I am also a stundent and have more money to spend on myself than almost everyone in my class so if I compare myself to my fellow students I guess it's fine.

I don't use $80 a day however. around $25.

Yes. That is EXACTLY what it is. Money you burn for no apparent reason. Money you expect nothing of.

I understand the causes you keep yourself in a position where you don't have 10 bux to blow a day. And I understand the causes other people are keeping themselves in that position.

However, having cause does not annul the fact.

If you're deaf cause you've played with fireworks, you're just as deaf as someone who's just deaf.

Living with no spare money has a few unfortunate effects on the psyche - aside from the moral, financial etc future benefits you may or may not see - namely, it damages it.

People become boring, people become annoying, and people foam and froth over a fifty.

So, what you will have to understand is that living in poverty, for a good reason, or towards a goal, out of sheer necessity or by choice, tends to make people a certain kind
of people.

Some call it a miser. I don't call it anything, but I do see some's point.
