This forum for example gets absolutely drenched in posts...

I have one related to Vista Ready Games as is the name of it
google is all over it like a rash and it gets plenty of traffic and new members every day

but we struggle to get people to do anything but read posts .. which is daft as if no one posts people wouldn have anything to read

Bout 0.5-1% of uniques reading a mainstream forum will ever post, that if you allow anonymous (no login) posting.

Bout 1-2% of those will ever become "active".

It's the breaks.

First, its bad idea to post another forum here.

Second, most probably the signups are from spam bots .. not humans. Try to make captcha harder or unique .. Also add useful content, hire some paid forum posters to talk about interesting topics, you might then get people to reply.

i didnt post a direct link to the forum, but as its a totally different topic i didnt see the problem .. apppologies if it is

we have captcha and manual moderating
if its a bot, then it gets filtered and manually checked

thanks for ideas ... this has been doing my head in
