Dog hair solution?
I know someone must have dealt with this issue before.
Problem: House is mostly tile and hardwood floors. Dog sheds enough to make it look like wall-to-wall carpet. Shaving him isn't an option, thinning undercoat temporary at best. Possible solution: I notice that the breeze coming in from open doors is enough to cause the hair to gather in piles, and it isn't a big wind, so I know the hair travels easily. I was thinking of getting some kind of air filtration unit that I can put on either side of the den and living room (where biggest problem noticed). I figure the sucking of it will at least put all the hair in one or two locations, making clean up easier. Question: Have any of you tried something like this? What did you use and was it successful? TIA. |

I once had a robotic vacuum cleaner, just put it on the floor and pressed a button, then it would move around in strange directions for about 20-30 minutes and it would be done, it did it better than me, that doesnt say much though
![]() Was 6-7 years ago, there is newer brands on the market now, that can also drive back to recharge automatically and shit like that, I got it because of dog hair (and my GF at that time thought I should help around the house)

I seem to recall seeing a similar commercial. They end up with enough hair to build a horse or something?

Using a wire whisker for the undercoat? Beth brushes Lucca (Chow with thick undercoat) with one everyday and its cut down drastically on hair around the house.

Seems to cause a lot less problems, primary because I can just about 2-3 words in spanish, hmmm possible it would be worth looking into replacing the wife with a spanish version too

I have been having the same problem with my cat and my big old shag rug (both of which I love). I'm sick of using a lint roller all the time! So yes, brushing your dog and stuff will be good, but I think getting a Roomba could also help do the trick. It's those little vacuum robots that work on their own. One of the versions is a sweeper, which would be good for your tile and wood floors. It'd probably be a lot less of an investment than a filtration system, at least for now.

BD, my groomer recommended the Furminator to me - she said it's the best thing she's ever dealt with as far as shedding dogs.

My dog was a shedder too. You have to get the proper brush and give him a good going over every day.
And vacuum a lot.

I bought a roomba for my parents and it picked up everything, minus the dog hair. It would snag it up off the floor but it wouldn't actually suck it in, and the hair would end up transplanted to a different area of the house. I promptly returned it, as the dog hair was the reason I bought it in the first place.
This was about 5 years ago, so maybe they have improved it's function(?), but it sucked when I used it.

I do it the old fashion way with the vacuum and the hose attachment. It doesn't take me that long. But I do wish there was an easier way
![]() Let me know baddog how the furminator works for ya!

The are old school shedding blades and before the Furminator, was what I used. They do OK - you just have to over and over and over the same spot if you have a double coated dog (which two of mine are).
