                          It's one hell of a force, these days. However, Wakabi boards earn no money without a loyal following. The only reason 4chan survives is traffic, the fact the moderator/owner works for an ISP so has incredibly cheap bandwidth, and its huge base of anime-wackers. I speculated upon this a few years ago until I did some research. Most chan-clones don't even make enough from ads to pay for the hosting.

                                  Chan-clones suffer from visitors who know too much about the internet, though. That makes it a fair bit harder for them to make money than it would be with a slightly more naive (and less underage) visitor base.

                                  Besides, the ration of bandwidth consumption to ad views should still be better than it is with tube sites.

                                          Still, I think it could work when geared towards another audience.

                                          Perhaps adding a system that automatically adds posts every once in a while, containing some porn pictures and a link to a site, could help in increasing revenue.

                                          The big problem with the chans, right now, is that the content is merely soaking up bandwidth, and not generating income. I imagine it would be fairly easy to change that.

                                                  The biggest problem, again, these are the 'sit at home and browse the internet' nerds who won't pay for things, and will make a firefox plugin to just block your autopost as well as using FilterSet-G to ban your ads.

The other day, I saw someone on /b/ asking how he could open a rar file. That, to me, signifies that the format appeals to a fairly broad audience, not just the computer-savvy.

                                                      Move away from weeaboos and toward general porn surfers (remove the japan-themed aspects of the sites), and it could work well.

                                                          So, there was one person out of how many who wasn't familiar. For the rest, how're you even going to seed it?                                                               I'd probably seed it with my existing adult traffic, integrate it with a few blogs and tgps. It'd take more time to set up than blogs, TGPs, etc, but I think it might be more future-proof. After all, chan-likes are a lot less vulnerable to tubes and file-sharing sites than TGPs and blogs are.

                                                              It might fail, of course, but I think it's worth trying
