Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price (2005)

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0473107/
    http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...96181471292925
    http://www.walmartmovie.com/

    Wonderful documentary, typical commie propaganda.
Wal-Mart blamed for everything from overpopulation in China to rapes and shootings in America.
African American victimization, anti-capital and anti-competition speech, revolution predicted, worker utopia, we got it all.
Arkansas and small town (White) America ridiculed.
No "other side of the story".

Wal-Mart net margin: 3%, similar to any other large retailer from industrialized nations.

Margins 5 times smaller than most tech, law, real estate development, financial firms in New York and California (with cheap money borrowed from Japan and the rest of the world, and loaned to American workers at much greater cost). Wal-Mart is a retailer dealing with the real economy, and doesn't sell paper or dreams for a living.

Before trying to teach others how to run their business and their community, maybe Greenwald should start by cleaning up his own backyard.

Most violent cities in America are New York, Los Angeles, Detroit, Miami.

New York and California rank near the bottom for middle class housing affordability, but rank near the top for billionaires.

Talk about violence, social justice, inequality, and worker exploitation. It's all right in front of your eyes.

I think some ppl should better shut their fucking mouth.

great fucking documentary, and while it is VERY one sided at times and a little inaccurate, the overall message is spot on...walmart is a shady fucking company with little to no ethics in the higher up levels of management

watched this one quite a while back now, and i agree that it's a great documentary. there were some points that they didn't touch on that perhaps they could have. walmart really is a monster corporation. their demographics team has their fingers in everything, virtually everywhere. they have better researchers in the field than the united states government employs. they know every little shithole town in north america, and have advanced knowledge of what areas are set for an economic boom 5-10 years in advance.

if you're looking at getting into real estate. FOLLOW THE NEW WALMARTS. property value in their areas is almost sure to skyrocket. if walmart is planning new development in a small community, it's almost always because they see a population move heading in that direction.

I love when people defend a company that encouraged its employees to use government programs then give them a decent wage and benefits. News flash we are paying for walmarts employees your ok with that?

Saw it and agree with tony404...

How can You accept a company that obviously has mooching off the taxpayers as a part of their business idea?
That also gives them one hell of a competetive advantage, thus enabling them to spread and root as they have.

Yep. Saw it the other night. It more a less mirrors the PBS version you can watch online at your local PBS station website.

Look for "Frontline" on the site.

I haven't seen the documentary but I read The Walmart Effect. The book isn't entirely one sided although it does lean a lot. It brings up a lot of interesting points and cites real examples of Walmart's effect on other companies.

see, here is the thing, after that documentary I was really pissed and went to walmart and talked to a few people there, a lot of what was said int hat doc was VERY old policy at walmart and hasn't been that way in a good number of years

while I agree that walmart is pure evil and a really horrible company with horrible owners, I think that if someone is going to do a documentary they should be using current fact and not information that is outdated

same with michael moore, i love him and what he does to get attention to issues that NEED addressing, but he has a tendency to stretch the truth or leave out important facts

I got a bunch of books on documentaries was thinking of dabbling in it. Nowhere does it say you have to be balanced. Actually once the documentary came out walmart started offering more benefits to their employees. I love when people these documenmtaries arent fair but you have faux news and talk radio pundits running total bullshit over 40 hrs a week and no one has problem with that. lol

I love when people say these documentaries that expose things arent fair and one sided. When you have over 40 hrs a week of one sided right wing hate radio.

the people working at walmart are too stupid to work anywhere better. They have no shortage of workers...

NOBODY FORCES these well below average IQ people to work there. yes plenty of people work there through HS and college but those "lifers" seriously give them an IQ test and you'll find those people are insanely stupid.

The kind of people that work at walmart also have a very high tendency to smoke which only makes all their other issues worse.
