Solution; keep it in a garage. Solves both the heat absorption and the birdshit problems.
Personally I've always believed that black and white were the two absolute WORST colors for cars. Both look horrible when the least bit of dirt gets on them. White I'm just not fond of at all anyway, and black has that heat absorption issue. I'll never buy either color of vehicle. My present ride is dark metalic green, and I love it. |
I had 3. Sun faded the paint out on one pretty bad. Other than that it was all good.

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but some cities actually have indoor parking garages. You can actually drive into them, and park, and pay as you leave. Some of them (as in all) even let you pay by the month. :D Of course I work from home, and I was probably thinking that a lot of people here do likewise. I may have assumed too much with that one though. If that's true then... oops. |

Actually, I'm lucky enough to work from home now, but I wasn't when I first moved to California. And unfortunately, I didn't work in the city, so no parking garages. Would have been nice though... would have saved me from having to get a new paint job. Temperatures that reach over 100 on a regular basis are never friendly to cars, no matter the color. |

No, not "don't drive it anywhere".... don't PARK it anywhere. Drive it all you want, just keep it in the garage. :pimp What I should have said was, the solution is just don't buy a black car. If you have one, sell it. Everyone I've known who has owned one now says they're the devil incarnate. But I'm a solution guy, so I've been thinking in those terms in the last few minutes and have come up with a few more ideas... What about those dashboard protector things? Made out of cardboard, you spread it across the inside of your windshield and it prevents the sun from melting your dashboard. Also, there's a little gadget out now that you can put in your side window and it has a fan in it that sucks the heat from the interior and blows it out, thus keeping your car cooler while it sits in the sun and bakes. Then there is always the car cover. Get a white one, pull it over your car every time you park it somewhere. :D |

My dashboard doesn't get hot. The seats are light grey and they don't get hot. The car gets DINGS and scratches. Just today I opened the white car door and it hit the black car's black door handle (and we are talking about a TEENY TINY NUDGE) and damned if it didn't leave a little white mark.
Now, I'm sure I could drive it on a road that didn't have any rocks, glass or other objects flying from it, or at least drive where there weren't any other cars, or I could park it in the street instead of in a parking lot when I go anywhere (you know I don't go to an office) so that when others open their doors they don't ding me, but I'm not sure how practical that would be ;) And yes, when the lease it up it goes bye bye and I will never own another black car. Evah!!! |
I have a black bmw and a silver mitsubishi. the black car is at the wash every weekend. the silver one not so much.

I have a black car. Maybe it was just bad luck but for the first week or so after I purchased it there were a few incidents where it was like other drivers were having problems seeing me.
I now drive with my parkers on. As for keeping it clean... I'm not fanatical about it, but since I work from home it's usually safely inside the garage anyway. Except when I go for my country drives, there's a few battle scars from those. :Graucho |
i have a black toyota highlander hybrid.
and a black and red vw beetle none more black |
Never owned a black car myself, I prefer red.
I have friends with black cars and they bitch on what a pain they are to keep clean. |
white is a good choice my white subaru I washed it once in about a year and it doesn't look dirty
|
Damn, after reading this thread, I'm put right off ever buying a black car.
|
black is the best color for a car - hard to clean, gets dirty very fast but it looks great
my last 3 cars were all black, just clean them more often or park them in your garage at night I think silver/grey is the best color if you dont like cleaning your car though :) |
Monday I washed my car, parked it infront of my house. I hour later I had to wash it again because some birds pooed on it.
|
i have a black car - its a bitch to keep clean. But my next car will be black regardless. Black outside, White leather interior - its not practical, but neither is $4.00 a gallon.
