Most churches in America aren't "megachurches" that revolve around a charismatic pastor....and most church goers aren't people who worship their pastor and believe everything he says. There are alot of reasons to go to a certain church other than the man preaching from the pulpit. Alot of denominations change pastors every few years yet the make-up of the congregation stays the same....because people are loyal to their faith/denomination/community, not to the preacher. Quote:
How about that, a person with ideas who can articulate them eloquently to the American public running for office. If you want to talk about someone saying what their publicity team tells them to say, and changes what they say based on the latest polling data, you need to look at the other candidate. Quote:
There aren't two people in the world who agree on absolutely everything. If you agreed with 90% of what a guy said but disagreed with 10% of what he said, you would just disown the guy over the 10%? Obama's been going to church there for 20 years....that's like 800 Sundays. Out of 800 sermons, the media hype is over two or three sermons (that Obama wasn't there for) and yet you're somehow trying to say that it isn't possible for Obama to disagree with the guy on these issues because he remained a member of the church. Puhlease. Quote:

The only people who love their country are the ones who heap praise upon their government no matter what it does? That's the sort of bullshit rhetoric that got us into the Iraq war....because the people who tried to call the government out on this bullshit war were called appeasers, we "blamed America first" and we were unpatriotic and didn't "support the troops" because we were against the war. While I will agree that the tone of the pastor's statements were a little frightening....from a factual point of view he really wasn't off base. Any intelligence expert will tell you that 9/11 was "blowback" for alot of the shitty things we've done in the middle east and around the world. To act surprised and indignant that we were attacked is ridiculous. Also, U.S. public policy has at the very least exacerbated the problems of the black underclass in urban areas, and he has a right to say so. |

The people who want to make a big thing out of this are people that weren't going to vote for him anyways. The people who love him don't care about this. These things have a half-life of about 3 days....seriously. There's 6 weeks until the next primary, and I guarantee you that this will be long forgotten by then....the media will be on to the next thing. |
The funniest thing about this is that Bush was calling in guys like Falwell, Robertson and other loons for weekly meetings on policy. These are guys who believed New Orleans was hit by a hurricane because it allowed gays to have parades and stuff.
When Obama starts calling on this Wright guy for policy advice, then I'd be worried. |

I was half way feeling for Obama but rather Hillary be pres cuz Obama just does not have any experience in politics. But when I saw and read about the goings on with that minister I was like holy shit, Obama is a mother fucking racist. Sorry ya do not goto a fucken minister for 20 years, have em get ya married and baptise yer daughter and not agree with the ministers bullshit. OBAMA is a mother fucking racist. |

Right now it's Obama vs McCain. |

Obama becoming president would be much like Microsoft appointing the fun new guy from marketing as the new CEO. Sure, it could work - but it probably won't. Hillary, on the other hand, would most likely make an uninspiring but competent president. She'd have a good chance of cleaning up a decent bit of the current mess, and she'd be likely to have a better chance of stabilizing the economy. She wouldn't be as popular as a JFK or a Reagan, but she'd more than likely do the job, and do it at least fairly well. McCain is a bit of a problem. He'd improve the image of the US abroad a lot, even if he probably wouldn't be as successful as Obama or Hillary in building new bridges and rebuilding old ones. Economically, he'd probably do quite a bit better than Bush, but since economics has never been his forte, it's doubtful that he'd do as well as Hillary. Still, he's more of a known value than Obama, which at this time is probably rather important. |

I do have a nice boyfriend that I have been dating two years in Sept. He takes me to Laguna Beach all the time and hot jazz clubs in San Fran. I had been ill since July and all that they have found is I was severely allergic to the allergy medicine Singulair. Been have some stuff with my heart although I am healthy and have a .008 chance of a heart attack. haha I can kick my daughter's butt when we work out at the gym so I guess I will survive. Got laid off from my job so I am working on online stuff and my house until I find something else. Should have the house on the market by May. It's been a long road but I have survived. I still kick myself in the butt for closing down to try to save the marriage. Party boat eh ? Are you still in Oregon ? Was your surgeries serious ? |

It almost seems like its ok to be racist if you are a black american, but not ok if you are white. Confusing. |

Yes a party boat. I thought it might relieve me from boredom and it did for a while...but I did not feel up to taking it out daily and learned that a realible Captain and crew are hard to come by...so I sold it. I invested a ton of money into it and almost recouped when I sold it. Yes I am still in Oregon and I am probably here to stay. No the surgerical procedures were not serious and I may have to have another in a couple of months. My esophagus closed up due to scar tissue and I could not eat any solid food for about a year...thus the loss of weight. I kept thinking it would get better...which caused me to delay seeing a doctor...but it got worse instead of better. |

And no one wants to hear about your old ass, geriatric surgeries. Especially a girl. I realize she's not going to fuck you anyway, but at least act like you remember what it was like to have a dick and a pair of balls. What could be more pathetic than reading some old fucker trying to troll pussy on the internet by talking about his scar tissue and unhealthy weight loss. |
And even reading the words "party boat" from you, makes me want to vomit. It's like hearing my grandmother say "werd".

A catholic who takes birth control or who is pro-choice is in direct defiance of the church. Not just their pastor, but the pope himself. So why is it possible for a person to be catholic, attend church regularly, and yet still not agree with some of the core teachings of the church....but it's impossible for a black man to attend Obama's church and not agree with the things Rev. Wright said? What I see in your statements is a projection of your own racism onto Obama. You assume that because you don't like black people that they don't like you either. |
“A patriot must always be ready to defend his country against his government.”

I stopped being a 'patriot' when I started to travel internationally a lot and realised that most people are patriots - irrespective of what country they're from. I've been to Russia, and trust me, they outdo Americans when it comes to patriotism. Only they aren't quite as obnoxious about it. And they're equally entitled to be patriotic. Because patriotism is all perception. Your country is the best becuase you think so! Woohoo! So if every country has a right to be patriotic then why be a patriot? It's like 1000 guys with identical dicks arguing about who has the best dick. It's pointless, it's retarded, it's small minded and is only something that unthinking drones think about. Those who think for themselves abandoned the idea of 'patriotism' long ago. :1orglaugh |

Back to the original point .. people will attend a catholic church and still use birth control (I personally know people who do!), but people won't attend a church that preaches racist rhetoric if they don't agree with it ... they will go to a church more in line with their values. Anyhow Americans deserve Obama ... and I guarantee you will get a hardline republican with a huge majority as soon as Obama's term is up. Once the world starts taking advantage of weak leadership and America gets trodden on for a few years people will get sick of the pretty speeches and clean softy-softly president. You need someone in there with a giant set of balls, and Clinton is packing twice that of Obama. |

Now Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell are just as insane as a guy like Wright in my mind. Robertson and Falwell had a seat at the White House for weekly meetings with the President on policy and issues. Bush even had private conversations with Pat Robertson on whether to invade Iraq or not. He spoke at Bob Jones University in 2000, a school that doesn't allow interracial dating, has called the Pope Satan, and has fought tooth and nail to keep blacks off their campus for decades. Now my question is why is the Rev. Wright issue so horrible, but taking military advice from a man who believes we were attacked because we have gays in our country is OK. Speaking in front of a racist University is fine? Is it because Rev. Wright is black? Is it because his Church is "different" than your classic white Church? It seems that race and xenophobia are the prime components of why this is a big deal and what President Bush did was not. |

Nonetheless, it was a thesis written in her early twenties. Who cares? If you want to bash politician's wives, look at Cindy McCain. She was a drug addict and a thief in the 90's. Still, I don't see why that would change my vote for McCain? |
