Yahoo Searches gone?
Can someone go to http://www.yahoo.com and do some searches they know will trigger the Yahoo! index
Because all I see right now are results from google (or is it?) Although, more mention about google anywhere. google.yahoo.com does not exist anymore I need someone else to confirm that the searches within the Yahoo! directory is over.. |

Take a look at this thread : http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum35/957.htm I am not seeing anymore Yahoo! search results.. I see directory matches, sponsor matches and then web matches.. Those web matches are not from the Yahoo! directory, it's a google index.. yahoo searches = google from now on.. Yikes! |

Everything is normal from here.
This happened a couple of weeks ago as well, but only for some. My traffic with Yahoo is normal as well, so... |

Hmm, now I am seeing Google results too.
I am pretty sure it's just a hiccup though, they might be rearranging something. Sponsored Listings disappeared for a couple hours yesterday. |

Look at the top right of the screen when you do a search.. Search in: The Web | Directory | News Look closely, you will see that by default "The Web" is selected.. If you click on the second one, "Directory" you will get the normal yahoo searches we had before. They changed the HTML. I don't think it's a hiccup. |

Now I am seeing mixed results, first 10 listings in a search are Yahoo then the rest is Google.
They are definitely testing something... |

It depends on the search phrase you use, for example:
http://search.yahoo.com/bin/search?p=computers Gives you the directory results, wheras: http://search.yahoo.com/bin/search?p=sex Gives you Web results, ![]() |

This always happens when Yahoo is doing updates. For example, about 20 minutes per day between 4-6am EST their database goes offline to do their daily additions/removals. During this time you get Google only. Whenever something is wrong or being done to their master database, Yahoo just removes their search results and let's google go in place (their secondary provider). Nothing special there. Yahoo would be stupid to remove their primary listings, that's what made them so big to start with and so many webmasters pay big bucks for inclusion.

They have definitely made quite a few changes.
About 20 mins ago. The submission form is quite different, as well as a few other things. Mostly cosmetic changes as far as I can see. |

Yeah...I've noticed a couple changes. Not just Google but it doesn't look like they are using the Overture database for sponsored links on the top and bottom headers anymore.

They did it..
It's changed.. It's a mix of google and Yahoo! directory.. ![]() http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/ysearch/ysearch-22.html "What's changed with Yahoo! Search? You may have noticed that the Yahoo! Search results look a little different. As part of our ongoing efforts to offer you the easiest and most rewarding search experience, by default we now list results ranked by relevancy that combine web page matches from both third parties and the Yahoo! Directory. Previously, by default we listed search results from the Yahoo! Directory and third-party search engine providers separately. Directory listings can still be viewed separately by clicking on the "Directory Site Matches" option in the navigation bar located below the search box. Yahoo! Search returns comprehensive results that match the words you entered. The results are divided into four main sections: Inside Yahoo!: Relevant products and services from within the Yahoo! network Directory Category Matches: Relevant categories in the Yahoo! Directory Sponsor Matches: Paid listings for commercial or product-related searches Web Matches: Search results from third-party search engine providers, combined with listings from the Yahoo! Directory Learn more about these sections... We are committed to offering consumers and businesses the best possible search service on the Web. From time to time, we enhance Yahoo! Search and the Yahoo! Directory to help achieve our goal." |

Well, the changes aren't too bad. Basically they combined Google and Yahoo results into one group now instead of putting Yahoo first then Google. In a way, this does improve relevancy, this is what Google did when they indexed DMOZ websites into their index. Now Google is indexing the Yahoo index as well. On the good side, it seems all my sites have gone up in PR by this effect, most averaging between 4-6 where I used to have 2-3 before.
On the bad side, it's no longer so easy to get good rankings on Yahoo. We'll have to wait and see how the market plays this out, no doubt Yahoo is screwing themselves on the $600/submission but probably banking more on per click charges from Overture. WG
