Oh, man thanks for the lessons...it really makes me feel less confident.
I understand, that you only want to help us, poor foreigners, but you do it in an embarrassing way. Like: I spe-ak slow so you can un-der-stand it...Links would be enough I think, but not a whole grammar lesson. But I hope it'll be helpful for some ppl!

I agree. I speak Spanish. English is my 2nd language. I found a lot of misspelling and wrong syntax in posts made by English speakers. I think no matter how informal you want your post to appear, at least you should write it correctly.
If you want to do business with me and you can't write a simple post properly, I wouldn't entrust you my site. :winkwink:

If you're using the word 'your' to attempt to express your thoughts of what someone else is then you're certainly out of your mind!

Shall we even attempt to explain that prima donna has absolutely nothing to do with coming before the singer or the Virgin Mary?

I was going to suggest this one also, thought alienq would the perfect case study. The one that drives me crazy is loser and looser.

sniperwolf 03-12-2008 10:55 AM

It's one of people's pet peeves I must say. Particularly to people who treat things for high professionalism. The language proficiency.

Yeah, I must agree with John that it's not their fault since it's not their native language but they can always do their best to study the right use of those three. And of course not only those but other grammatical errors that they do commit.

*sigh* There are some smart-aleck here who claims to know everything but do they understand where these foreigners coming from. I myself is not a native English speaker but I can speak with proficiency without committing those errors. lol *sorry for the modesty...

Well anyway, i still believe that as long as people deliver their thoughts with clarity, disregarding the errors, all is fine...

I understand there are a lot of non-native English speakers on this board and it's not their fault. Then again, they're probably misusing the words less than those on here who speak English natively.

With English being my second language I feel like I can speak better than people that speak English as their first language. It seems like people are speaking far more ''slanguish'' in this country than ever. And its not even because they don't speak English well I think most people are just lazy to even talk. This has become a texting world!!!

Spunky 03-14-2008 07:09 PM

I dint gets no edumacations

Michaelious 03-18-2008 06:38 AM

"There" indicates location, "their" indicates posession and "they're" indicates contraction (of 'They Are'). Repeat that 1,000 times and you will be on your way to grammatical glory!

kmanrox 03-18-2008 06:43 AM

they'res been stupider threads all over, hear and their

don't expect professionalism from this board

this place is full of high school drop-outs and college kids or people working at McDonald's

you can count on one hand the people wth an MBA degree here probably

Xniphobe 03-18-2008 07:02 AM

Your write, it's much more anoying when native speakers do it. Non-native speakers do it all the time, but than it's understandble, sometimes evan enjoyible.

Thus:

Let Their Be Engrish!

Lace 03-18-2008 07:45 AM

LOL That's funny. I try to keep my grammar in check but we all slip up at times.

CDSmith 03-18-2008 08:01 AM

Okay, now do "to, too, two"

After that, I have a serious bitch in the hopper about people's inability to spell "Probably".... prolly, probly, probally...

Don't even get me started with idiots who say "Libary" instead of library. *bitchslap*

I often use "prolly", I guess that's an abbreviation, quite common on forums etc...

EDIT: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=prolly

Shortened version of "probably". Typically used in online conversations, although REALLY lazy people have started using it in verbal conversations as well...

Web-slang abbreviation of "probably". Used extensively in forums and instant messsaging worldwide.

B2BwithJoeD 03-18-2008 08:37 AM

Ha, wait until the current generation begins to speak and write narratives as it texts...

I'm with PBJohn; so bad I edit my own IMs... I still feel we are building long-term credibility every time we are composing an email or a thread/post...

On another note, I was on ICQ with an EU Sponsor yesterday with excellent written skills who preferred ICQ to the phone - he told me he learned to write in English on GFY but his verbal skills were not as accomplished - best validation of GFY I have heard in a while :thumbsup

And for those of you for whom English is not your native language... Don't ever apologize for your English language skills - they are almost guaranteed to be superior to the average American's foreign language proficiency...

The best way to legitimize laziness and stupidity is to enter it into urbandictionary and pass it off as real.

Michaelious 03-18-2008 08:46 AM

Lol you can't hide from the grammar police!

DWB 03-18-2008 08:58 AM

Your and You're is another.

But even though I know the difference of all of this, I still screw up because I type much faster than I can process and do not check it.

Aye aye Sir! :thumbsup

That must be the reason why some native english speakers don't recognize what's superior and what's not. :error
