Well, it's my understanding that the reason that Firefly flopped was political.

The guy who was behind the show, and pushed for Fox to pick it up left the network soon after it did - and not on good terms... so, what you had was a couple of people taking his place that not only had absolutely no interest in the show, but, in fact, had political cause to show that their predecessor's ideas sucked, and Fox was better off without him.

So, they aired episodes out of chronological order, and kept switching the time-slot that the show was broadcasted (I think that in the time it took the 10-or-so episodes that aired to air, the show went through 3 or 4 time-slot changes). No show could stand up to that kind of treatment.. and so, it didn't.

I was like "wtf," when they cancelled it, too... but at least they recognized enough of a following to come back around and make a movie out of it.

Fans of Summer Glau will want to watch the movie Serenity for sure though. Pretty great and very underrated sci-fi flick, and her fight scenes in it are terrific.

My brother was into FireFly and the movie Serenity and beat me up to watch it. I am NOT a scifi fan but I liked the movie. AND that chick is hot.

I hear Fox is on the fence about bringing it back. You can watch the full HD episodes at Fox.com. No buffering and and the quality is pretty good.

In several ways I think she's much hotter. For one thing Glau is a far better actress than Simpson. (not hard to do)

For another she is quite intelligent, judging by the interviews I've seen her do. Simpson, well... not so much.

the movie did not even break even which sort of sucks
considering a movie has to make 4 times the production cost to break even and serenity didn't even match production cost i can understand why it did not come back to tv.

I don't think many were expecting it to come back to T.V. after Fox shit-canned it.

NoWhErE 03-12-2008 03:15 PM

Serenity was so good though. It was just badly marketed and no one could had any clue of what happened to the TV show.

Any Joss Whedon project is gold.

I hadn't even heard of that movie until they ran it on Movie Central (in late 2006 I believe)

I was like "What's this? This movie is great, why haven't I ever heard of it before?"

Slipped right under the radar it did.
