Sorry to hear. We just had to spend $800 to get my data recovered off a dead drive. They sent a bill to us for $4000, but I reminded them that I clicked the $800 flat fee link (thank god I found that). The drive had a years worth of pics I'd shot and not posted yet on it. Thousands of dollars in modeling/agent fees. Yes, I was stupid to have not burned them to disc. I was always going to do it tomorrow. So stupid. Anyway, just bought 2 TB drives. Doing backups every 3 days, and of course I'm burning 10 zillion DVDs. I didn't even think of what crockett said about the power supply frying all the drives, so tomorrow I have to go buy another 1 TB external drive just to be safe.

I'm going to have to buy some hard drives as soon as possible to use as backup drives and also burn shit on dvds

if the drive actually spins try to put it in an external case and hook it up with usb/firewire. But let it rest for a day or two some place cold first. This has worked for me a couple of times

I bought an external drive enclosure on Saturday from ncix.com. Just waiting for it to be delivered, Hopefully that works.

just reinstall windows on the c: drive, with the d: drive completely unplugged. at least you can get your machine running again and figure out the problem with the other hard drive.

That's what I did on sunday.

I do, but seeing as I don't have a car or an easy way to get around I just ordered it online.

so I got the hard drive enclosure today and put the hard drive in it, plugged in the power cable and usb cable to the back and plugged the USB cable into my pc.. It detects the device I'm plugging and shortly after I get

"USB Device not Recognized.

One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it."

I tried every usb port and got the same error. I just can't win.
