Get sun....Go outside and soak up some sun while listening to happy-go-lucky music!!!

payd2purv 03-08-2008 10:01 AM

I don't get depressed I get stressed out.

For me what works is being around other people and doing whatever I can to occupy my mind so I am not focused on what is "stressing" or "depressing" me.

"An idle mind is the devil's playground." It is so true.

MrVids 03-08-2008 10:08 AM

one thing that i always remind myself when i'm down about something is that its not cancer. not to trivialize your current problem, but just to help you gain some perspective on whats going on around you and be thankful, if just a tad, that you aren't diagnosed with a terminal tumor or the like.

now, lemme say that i'm a geek. and whenever i hit a rough patch, its time for some serious gaming and/or reading a book. sure its escapism, but it gives you some time to get outside of the current situation. gaining some objectivity on whats going on will definitely help you dissect the situation and hit it from a new angle. never the less, while it seems odd, you can sometimes find a way to relate to characters in a book that will help you through a situation as well. I'm not a self help kinda guy, i generally read fantasy, but you'd be surprised.

I also agree with the volunteering angle. Getting out there and being around people who don't know anything about what you're personally going through will also give you a chance to get out of your head and focus on breathing in and out ;)

i found this on a website;

If you are suffering from the milder form of depression that can last a few days, there are things you can do to try and get back to feeling better.

* Avoid alcohol and drugs
* Exercise
* Try and get some extra sleep
* Meditate
* Listen to soothing music
* Read a book
* Take a warm bath
* Pamper yourself
* Go someplace completely different
* Try doing something you have never done before
* Stop worrying over things you are not in a position to do anything about
* Actively work at doing things to solve your problems instead of complaining about them
* If you can't work out a problem by yourself, ask for help

the tranny fucker has some good advise.............

Pornwolf 03-08-2008 05:49 PM

I've never been really depressed.

But then, I exercise a lot. I think it helps to feel that even if nothing else is going right in your life you always know that your body is the best if can be.

That gives you a basic, unshakable base of confidence that keeps depression at bay.

I stopped crying the day I realized billions of people have it worse than me.

Fire up one of the bikes and go cruise. Doesn't take long to cure what ails me. A snowmobile may be more appropriate for you.

papill0n 03-08-2008 06:28 PM

hope you feel better soon sleazy

I brag on chat boards and forums about my wealth, VIP parties I throw and how everyone loves to be like me, hang out with me and of course envy me. You should try it, it really works.

put on some slipknot, tell myself to stop being such a puss and grow up and start working on something. Usually photoshop shit.

Or play some video games. Get your mind focused on something else.

Long walks sucks, you just think about all that shit then which maks you even more depresed.

I usually just work and listed to Trance music (with no sad strings and no sad lyrics). Helps a lot.

Dress up and go do a few 100 miles an hour stretch on the lake with the snowmobile.

That should do the trick ;-)

Tanker 03-09-2008 09:04 AM

I used to get on my motorcycle and ride through the desert for a few hours I called it My time! Havnt had to do that in a while although if I did I would freeze my balls off up in Toronto this time of year trying to ride my motorcylce so thats a good thing

I heard that when some people get down, they smoke a big fat bowl of dank to the face then jump into an FPS game and wrok random nubes for a few hours.

Personally, I like to mess with my stamp collection. :upsidedow

dude, that sounds fun as hell!

anyone ever fall in the lake doing that? or is it one of those areas where the ice is so thick that semi-trucks can drive on it?

Sam Granger 03-09-2008 10:12 AM

In same situation right now.
Go out with friends, have a laugh. Try to meet new people...

Or, you get out in the fresh air (assuming you live somewhere that has it) and have time to collect your thoughts... and get a little exercise. I don't see any of that as a bad thing.

minddust 03-09-2008 12:34 PM

You can get to my place and we'll shovel the snow together:thumbsup:winkwink:

Lee 03-09-2008 12:47 PM

Take up golf, get some lessons though.

lhizy_05 03-09-2008 04:43 PM

i'll go out with my friends.. or listen to the music!!!

Sexy Rex 03-09-2008 05:23 PM

Went through this a few years ago, not an easy thing.

I'd say endorphines you get out of exercising are a big helper, also feeling proud of urself after running or going to the gym helps a lot, but u need to force yourself to go back to the gym for a few times and that's not easy.

Food I'd avoid carbs as much as possible because they have a big impact on how you feel.

Buy a brightlight and read about the lack of sun depression syndrom thing online.

Maybe you should go on the snowmobile today (given there is no snowstorm, ggghh), spend a day just for YOU and come back with enough energy to excercise and be carefull about the food. Might be enough to start going back up.

If everything fails, jump on a plane, come spend a week or two in Paris. Living with the frenchs for a whle will for sure give you a better feeling about your life, lol

And as a few other said here, I'm always online :)

Pornopat 03-09-2008 05:32 PM

And then there was LIGHT.
Set up a room with an enormous abundance of light. All lamps possible.Get in extra wires for extra lamps...every bit of light helps.
Spent at least an hour a day in this room.
Going under the sunbench everyday or going to a sunny place for a holiday can help a lot as well. Just dont stay in the hotelroom.
Light is THE answer against depression.
:2 cents:

PaygeaGrl 03-09-2008 07:42 PM

I went through a very difficult time in my life years back and felt pretty much paralyzed with sadness. I laid on my couch and barely move for about three weeks. Finally, a few of my friends came over, threw me in the shower, packed my bags,and took my on a week vacation. We went to roller coaster parks, spas(girl stuff), went to a few bars, and just had a great time. They didn't leave me alone to wallow in misery.

So my advice is to spend time with people you care about and do things you once enjoyed doing. Take a trip with friends or family--just take a breather from your current situation so you can regain some clarity.

klinton 03-09-2008 11:24 PM

seek for the reasons and try what others said

EuroRev_Stacey 03-09-2008 11:34 PM

i stay in my room & listen to sad songs, relate my self to the stories of the songs, stress my self and get relieved :)

Emil 03-10-2008 02:56 AM

Exercise is a great thing to do, but it can be really hard to get your ass moving if you're depressed.
Going for a swim and playing with the water slides like a kid always cheer me up.

What do you eat? If there's a shortage of zinc, potassium, B-vitamins, Omega3...... (the list is long) it can make you feel depressed.

CashGordon 03-10-2008 03:00 AM

i party hard
