I have lived all over the world. Well not all over but lots more places than most people.

One of the things I have noticed lately is that so many "men" spend an unhealthy amount of time talking about every salacious detail about their neighbors, friends, family members, etc.

It is really sad and when you call them on it they look at you like they have never heard anyone complain before. I have another place by the beach and that are is full of these types of douches.

Does it come from being raised by their mothers?

I just had to vent. Carry on.

It happened sometime between 1988 and 1990 and, seemingly, affected people from every age group, race, religion, and social-economic walk of life.

yeah i have to agree
i do not think it comes from the fact they've been raised by their mothers.
men have been raised by their mothers for centuries and what you describe is pretty recent.

I think the reason is more on the stupid media side (tv, movies, press, etc)
