Stephen King hasn't written a decent book since Misery

And that was like 20 years ago. I'm reading Cell now and it's the dumbest pile of crap I've read in years. He should go back on the cocaine.

I seem to recall reading how he wrote Cujo while high and doesn't remember. I think it was in his book on writing.

That movie "The Mist" was alright but i had to watch it as if I was watching a classic Japanese flick because those effects were cheese.

I thought the Cell was a decent piece of pulp fiction but nothing worth writing home about. His new book Duma Key is supposed to be a return to form, but I haven't read it yet.

I thought his early books were great. The Stand and The Shining being my favorites. Then fade to black. How many writers were BETTER under the influence? Hemingway, Thompson, King. I'm sure dozens.

Post 1990 I'd have to say The Green Mile (1996) is the standout by a good margine.

The Langoliers (1990) was interesting though.

Nightmares & Dreamscapes (1993) is one of my favorite short story collections ever.

The gunslinger series was good although he started it before Misery and ended it way after, maybe the flow from the first book kept him true to form. The problem I have with Stephen King books is that the beginning and middle are awesome. When the end comes its always saved by some magic that comes out of nowhere. pretty annoying.

I loved the dark tower series.

And both "the long walk" and "running man" which he wrote under pseudonym Richard Bachman.

And The Talisman he did with Peter Straub.

And of course The Shining.

It seems like his best stories have always been ones grounded in reality. His supernatural stuff is really the dumbest shit I've ever read. IT is the worst offender.

Misery
Dolores Claiborne
Stand by Me
Shawshank Redemption
The Shining

Good stories...no ghosts or monsters and shit in them. He's put out 19,000 books and short stories in the last 30 years. How could could they actually be?

Did you know Stephen King lived in a single wide trailer and used to write smut stories in the early 70's for magazines before he made it big?
