OS to use
Just bought myself a new pc, and still in doubt which operating systems to put on it.
So far, I think I'm gonna use Win2K, RedHat and Debian. Any other suggestions?

Yeah it depends on what you want to do , but RedHat and Linux now have all kinds of cool software that is just like windows. If you dont need to be stuck with proprietary windows stuff I would use RedHat 8, otherwise I would say dual boot RH 8 & Win2k.

Sounds like you want to practice Unix. Consider loading FreeBSD.

i recommend FreeBSD, too, for learning UNIX. BSD is pretty much a defacto "standard", whereas Linux is all over the place, no one standard used consistently. plus, FreeBSD is more stable (or at least, is easier to make stable).

Was planning to run win2k, I'd rather shoot myself than use ME (my gf uses it, and it has the funny feature of putting back viruses after you remove them).
I primarily need windows for visitors (e.g. girlfriend) who use my computer, and they wouldn't have the slightest idea how to use other os. Plus, I sometimes have (freudian typo: typed hate instead of have) to program for windows, which I prefer to do in the real windows ![]() I was actually in doubt about either using debian or freebsd (was planning openbsd first, but their recent problems kinda scared me off) alongside with windows and redhat. Any suggestions?
