Fuck big oil! I hope gas goes to $10 a gallon, so we are finally forced to roll out the electric cars and the alternate energy plans that scumbags like the Republican oil men have been repressing for so many years now.

Wake up America! Stop believing the lies, and stop buying into the fear!

The model T got 25 miles to the gallon. Nearly a hundred fucking years later the average car in America barely gets that mileage now. Are you fucking kidding me? Wake the fuck up!

I never knew that about the model T good one.:thumbsup

I couldn't agree more, too bad any new fuel technology will be overtaken by the current big oil companies. They aren't going anywhere they make too much money.

I love looking at graphics like this and corelating to them to things like.. oh I don't know.. a Bush in the white house..

Naturally Bush will veto this. he stands to lose money if it goes through. So no way in hell with this go through until the Republicans are out of office..

theking 02-28-2008 11:47 PM

If I am not mistaken the oil companies are currently receiving an 8 plus percent return on their investment. Eight percent is more than some businesses and far less than other businesses. I personally do not have a complaint with an 8 plus percent return...and it is the share holders (people) that are the benefactors of the return. It has been said that as many as 48% of people that have stocks, 401 K's etc. have oil shares in their portfolios. Adjusted for inflation the price of gas is about the same as it was 40 years ago.

Most of the countries already pay $5+ a gallon.

the world is not running out of gas. "you idiot."

there is enough oil still locked in the ground to power the world well beyond our lifetime's, our children's lifetime's, and their children's lifetimes.

when they talk about oil being finite, they're talking in the long term.

This film is just one example of how the public gets fucked over by big oil.

When new battery technology finally started to make sense, guess who purchased the rights to the technology?

For all you brilliant GFY economists, what do you think is gonna happen to the price of EVERYTHING when the gas goes to $5 a gallon.

All those things you buy are going to go up by 25-50%. Yes that's right it is going to cost more to buy your beer and nacho's.

I always love people that say shit like, buy stock in oil companies. When you can't buy a loaf of bread, or the gas to even go to the store, you won't be buying anything except what you need to live.

Of course prices will go up but you blame the oil companies for the increase of the price of gas and this is not the case. The oil companies are currently operating at an 8 plus percent profit margin on their investment and they of course are in business to make a reasonable profit and I consider 8 plus percent to be a reasonable margin.

Tom_PM 02-29-2008 09:40 AM

Ok so you read this: "new taxes on the largest oil companies" and extrapolate that therefore the oil companies would pass it on to consumers, and THEREfore the Democrats are raising taxes on you and me.

They raise tax on the largest companies in the world, who last year made the largest profits ever in history of the world, and yet it's the democrats fault, hehe. Quite a clear path for some (evidently), kinda insanity to others.

And We know its really 8 percent how?

Oil company made news several weeks ago by making the largest profit of any company, EVER in history. Surely people dont think their profit is capped somehow? lmao.

You know most gasoline stations sell gas a penny BELOW their own cost right? They rely on people coming in to buy a Pepsi or Coffee to make profit. This is common knowledge isn't it? Come on.

When I was a kid I worked at a car wash they had a gas pump. I was shocked how little money gas stations made from actual gas.

Tom_PM 02-29-2008 10:18 AM

Everyone also should know that the recent energy bill that passed a couple of weeks ago once again includes breaks for oil companies, and no increase in tax breaks or incentives for Wind, Solar and Hydro power.

In this age of energy independance talk in politics, they pass a bill that might be passed if oil was the new up and coming energy source! LOL

If you want to get an energy break, you HAVE TO do it yourself as an individual. Maybe your grandchildren will be relying on a smart government (lol), but if you try to, you will just lose the race.

And yeah, gas stations lose money on selling gas. It's just the way to get people in the door essentially from a retail standpoint.

When I was young I once worked for a company Standard station. At that time all new employees were sent to a company school for a week and it was not to learn how to sell gas. It was to learn techniques to sell accessories or back room service. At that time all station employees had a sales quota to meet and the quotas varied dependant upon the location of the station. Our titles were that of various rankings of salesman...like salesman 3rd class...2nd class etc. until one reaches assistant manager or manager. My particular station had a quota of $50 per employee per day...which was actually easy to meet because it was a very busy station. The station had 14 employees and was open 24/7. At that time I think the profit off of the sale of gas was 3 to 6 cents per gallon. In other words a profit of 30-60 cents per ten gallons of gas which was the average per customer at that time.

Tom_PM 02-29-2008 10:44 AM

Well some news channel did a sit down chat at a gas station/diner the other day and the owner said he and every owner in the area he knows is selling it a penny per gallon below cost. Hell if I know first hand.

I know if I drove more than a mile a week, my entire budget would have to adjust for the cost of gas.

I know that the thrust of the piece was that the truckers are not making money much above their own costs, gas stations aren't making money more than to barely stay open, the people who buy the produce that is trucked are spending more for it, so who is left to be making a profit? The companies that just posted the largest profits in the history of the planet, thats who, lol. Plus they get tax breaks. Kick ass business if you can break into it I guess.
