Franziskaner
Spaten Optimator
...
I second the recommendation to go to a local microbrewery. I generally prefer mixed drinks, but we have a local steakhouse that brews 6-7 beers and they were all enjoyable. It irks me when I'm eating there and someone at my table orders a Bud Light when you can literally see the brewing room 10 feet away.

I also enjoy a pint of Guinness to start things off.. I also drink Stella, Tuborg, Carlsberg, Bud, MDG ...... Fuck it I love pretty much all beer.... lol..

(cept Molson Canadian, Blue, Lake Port and the rest of the N American piss brands like so)

G.A.F 02-27-2008 09:46 AM

I prefer home-brewed beer. As long it is very cold. :thumbsup

Paco, of Large Cash. 02-27-2008 09:54 AM

Excluding the obscure & unique micro-brewery beers (Ales and Lagers) Kilkenny is the only beer for me.

It is a very creamy and smooth Irish cream (red) ale that's a 4.3% alc/vol.

Like Guinness, it contains a nitrogen 'widget' that gives it the perfect head each time you pour one. But, unlike Guiness, it does not taste like sewer (soy/soya) sauce. It is a real treat and all the people I have introduced it to have cursed me for getting them hooked!

It must be extremely cold, as well I suggest pouring it in to a frosted mug.

PaygeaGrl 02-27-2008 09:59 AM

Blue Moon with a few orange slices..yummy:-)

tyler (durden) 02-27-2008 10:25 AM

those beers you drink are about as cheap as they get so...you are kind of limiting yourself as in general with beer (as most things) you pay for what you get.

here are my favorite beers in that price range that you should be able to find at your grocery store:

Henry Wienhard's Private Reserve
Red Stripe
Labatt's Blue
Shiner Bock

Other personal favorite that cost a bit more (but are well worth it):

Newcastle, Guinness, and Swithwick's (For the UK, Irish types)
Blue Moon
Red Tail
Stella Artois
Anderson Valley Summer Solstice or Winter Solstice
Anchor Steam or Boch
4 Peaks Kiltlifter
Bohemia or Pacifico Clara for Mexican
Dogfish Head Brown Ale

And a whole variety of Belgian Ales

GAMEFINEST 02-27-2008 10:26 AM

Roald 02-27-2008 10:33 AM

Yuengling Lager is the best, smoothest tasting beer ive ever had.

clutch_hicks 02-27-2008 12:15 PM

Saranac. accept no substitute.
NY members will know what i'm talkin bout.

D 02-27-2008 12:20 PM

Meeting your criteria: Bass and Guinness.

The important thing is that you're trying new beers, so try them all, I say. I've easily sampled over 1,000 varieties of beer in my life, and I'm no where near done tasting new flavors.

I'm decently proficient at recommending beers to people based on what non-beer items they deem tasty. Hit me up on ICQ if you think that kind of advice would work for you.

Cheers.

yys 02-27-2008 12:22 PM

Stella
Heineken
Keith's
Żywiec

and sample some of the beers from the micro-breweries in your region.

You must be unfamiliar with real American beer. :2 cents:

Plenty of Belgian-style ales throughout the states, for starters.

VeriSexy 02-27-2008 05:19 PM
