I assume the theme of the movie is things happen by chance. So the ending follows along that theme. The problem is it's like they jerked you off for 2 hours then in the end you didn't get the happy ending.
They build you up with a interesting story line, then piss in the wind the last 5 mins. That movie pissed me off. I was thinking it was one of the better movies I'd seen in a long time.. Then they go fuck it up the last 5 mins.
SPOILERS
the movie ended the same way the book did
the story being told is about Tommy Lee Jones' character NOT Josh Brolin's character or even Javier Bardem's character
think about his last words when he's talking about his dream "...and then I woke up" basically, he woke up from the dream and also woke up and realized he's ready to retire because he's getting "too old for this shit" hehe
God no.... I had to get up and leave during broke back when the man on man ass fucking started. I wasn't expecting that. Wasn't even good, and then they had to add all that butt buddy shit. I thought it was going to be implied or something. Not full on bare back grunting and groaning. Lori and Michelle said it was good... I'll take their word for it.
I admit, the abrupt ending through me off too, but when I sat there thinking about it, it started making more and more sense. The second time I saw the movie, it tied up a lot better for me
I also think it was a ballsy move to kill a main character, who we assume will be the hero, offscreen and I can understand why, for some moviegoers, it didn't work for them...
