About selling domains on GFY...

A couple weeks back I posted a thread in the buy/sell forum with some good domains, including Kinkcams.com

All i got was low-ball offers like $75. Best offer i got for kinkcams was $125. And i was only asking $400 even tho i think it's worth far more. After so many crappy offers, i started to think maybe my domains weren't as good as i thought. Anyhow, before caving in and selling cheap, i decided to list them at sedo as well.

Today i sold kinkcams.com for $1,500.

Makes me think there's lotsa cheapskate kids here, and not too many serious webmasters anymore...

If you don't live with mom and dad, please answer me this:

Am i crazy (and damn lucky to get such coin for a piece of crap domain), or is a name like kinkcams definitely worth $1,500 and maybe even more?

No one is going to pay market price if they don't have to. Also, don't count too much on the sale until you have the money in your bank account. A lot of deadbeat buyers on sedo.

Remember somethings only worth what another will pay for it, if your domain is only worth $75 to me, then I'm going to offer you that.

Wow, frank. I totally respect your opinion.. but i'm really surprised to hear you say that. I don't think you could reg anything similar, if you could it'd be worth 7.95

Anyhow, kink.com is launching a cams site, and there are lots of other high-value potential applications for this name IMHO.

Nah, maybe 7.95 is not true but honestly 1500 sounds a bit much too me.

I wouldn't go that far, but I can assure you there are many braggin about their PHAT pockets who will try and nickel and dime you on sites, domains, content, whatever.

For REAL players with money on the boards, not just this one, and not just adult, very few are serious players who will drop more than a few hundred bucks. Or have that to their name. Many will try and low ball you, and just how far they go on that shows they either are clueless, or have no fucking money.

Many of the offers you get on good content/sites/domain are insulting. However, it does reveal how little many know about the value of internet property.

The rule of this game is you can GET your price, but you may have to wait it out. Oh, and the "it's only worth what someone's willing to pay", also plays into it.

You should have come back with $200 offer because the way sedo works a noob get's kind of stuck when they put up a price like $60 when they really want $400 and the way out is to send back a rediculous counter offer because the system will not let them correct their mistake.

Not crazy or lucky at all -- I've sold slightly worse domains for more money, once or twice. In fact, I think that domain could go for more, to the right buyer. To me that would feel like "I needed the cash so I took the offer" price. Which is not a bad thing when liquidity is what your business needs call for.

it's hard for an undeveloped domain to be worth much money unless it has type in traffic. IMHO

I think the problem with your domain is that it has a low keyword frequency. Meaning not many people in a given day search for the keyword phrase "kink cams". It has no estimated traffic (type in traffic that is), no page rank, no back links. It's basically a dead domain.

You sat on it and did what with it? You should have been building up backlinks and a history for this domain. That would have honestly helped the value greatly.

You've had this domain for over 2 years and in that time what did you do with it? I see you have it sharing an IP with over 900 other domains so that means you probably parked it and for what? It's not like that domain got a lot of type ins. You wasted your time and potentially a huge amount of money you *could* have made with the domain had you actually put a tiny, tiny, tiny bit of effort into getting it somewhat established.

I'm not even talking building a site on it.

So long story short, the reason the people on GFY didn't offer you loads of money for it because you didn't waste your time doing anything with the domain. You parked it and just hoped magically somehow something would take off with it. But things just don't happen like that.

Next time you have a domain, put some effort into. Get up a one pager with text relevant to the keywords for the domain. Get it listed in some search engines, even if it's not heavy with content, it's a start. Do not sit on a domain and for the love of god, don't park it. It's your domain, build the value and then watch how much money you make from selling it!

There are a lot of really stupid people on GFY that don't know anything about the value of domain names. Here is a short list of the worst offenders:

lazycash
Fris = SeriousBusiness
will76
steved = fake name
RageCash-Ben
poontank = fake name
thebigstorm = fake name
and so on.

Listen to the idiots and become one.

Ignore the fuckers that don't know shit, but pretend to know something. They are harmful to your wallet.

Stupid fuckers like these (listed above) fucked up their own lives and now want to screw with yours.

Good luck!!
