I know more than one VERY LARGE tube site (<1000 Alex) owner and I can tell you one thing they have in common. They're laughing their asses off at people that think their margins are tight, that they can't afford to buy content, and that they make most of their money off dating. The reality of it is, bandwidth is cheap, the margins are awesome, and 90% of their sales comes from selling memberships.

Shh, don't tell Markham.

Right, sorry.

Back to business as usual folks. Keep building 2 minute tubes with the same sponosor clips over and over plus whining a lot on GFY. Sooner or later it'll probably be a profitable business model.

Hd wont be the death of tubes. Hell I remember back in the day waiting for a crappy black and white picture of a naked chick to load and whacking off to it

here is how HD works .. a select % of people in the world ( whether TV of Porn ) will invest in all the equipment needed for true HD, whether its the TV, the player, the media.

of that % of people, maybe only 20% of them will continuously buy new media and strictly that new media when posed with a choice of say, an ok Movie vs a Movie they know they want to see. the idea that HD is the decider of consumers is more of an industry driven bar of excellence vs consumer needs.

want an interesting way to watch consumer trending? go look at the amount of people willing to download an HD episode of TV , vs the SD episode of the same show. Even with only an avg of 2 -> 3x video size, most people still go for SD. and mind you, I'm talking about torrents, where they should by all means be capable of watching HD since their computer monitor can typically already display resolutions higher then HD needs for native resolution.

even when it came to DVD vs VHS ( which was a real noticable and huge upgrade, think navigation alone ) DVD only started becoming the winner when it one, was just as cheap to get into the hardware, and two, the media releases dictated the switch was needed. when DVD first came out, it was like being a laser disc owner, I might have known 3 other people with DVD and the release catalog was really limited. that was HD compared to tape, but I don't recall seeing everyone and their mother in a mad rush to denounce VHS.

HD porn typically just shows a bit more details, reveals how poor some of the lighting can be and takes alot more time to start a continuous stream or download ( and most of the time, this is because the content provider while having the media, hasn't really invested in the hardware needed to serve it properly under heavy load ) a nipple is a nipple regardless of if I can see every little bump and hair.

i made the decision to quite porn forever a few years ago. the ONLY reason i came back is because this industry is dominated by complete and total fucking idiots without a clue. i read all these "the sky is falling" threads and i honestly get more motivated and more excited. that's the only reason i read them. just so i can peek in and say to myself "yep... still totally retarded, nothings changed".

everyone has to keep saying "illegal tubes", "stolen videos" and "prepaid cam and dating ads" like a mantra because otherwise, they'll have wake up in the morning everyday and look themselves in the mirror and ask "how did YOU fuck up and let it all slip away"

just like in boxing, kickboxing, martial arts and life... if you wake up everyday, pointing the finger at something else for your failures, your short comings and your weaknesses, you simply condemn yourself to continued failure.

.... in fact, i have some very good, one word dictionary domains i've been developing ... and i can't even focus on it, because i can't get over the fact at how dumb people in this industry are. its just too much easy money laying on the table.

I think you are mistaking people who post on GFY for people that actually work in the porn industry. The guys I know in this business are VERY smart. But I'm glad to hear that Warchild is making a killing off of sales from tube sites. I make a little money off of the one that I own though it's nowhere near the conversion ratios I had on Ampland for a dozen years. Quite frankly...I think the fact that you can download most paysites complete members areas off of torrents is killing conversions across the board for paysites.

Anyway, just wanted to say that just because people post on GFY and claim to be in the industry because they read GFY and found out about affiliate programs and signed up...well, the actual people in the porn business shouldn't have their intellect compared to that.

i've been in this business since the beginning. think the opposite. i think that far too many people are total retards, that are being mistaken for being "smart".

again.. download this... download that... tube this... tube that... .etc etc etc. it's ALWAYS been the same shit since 1996.
  • "Oh my god, free passwords are everywhere... why will people pay for porn anymore"
  • "holy shit... look at all this free content in usenet groups... why will people pay for porn anymore"
  • "what the fuck... everyone is using so many exit consoles, resetting home pages etc... why would anyone pay for porn anymore"
  • "spammers are ruining it for everyone... people are pissing off so many surfers, they're going to stop buying porn completely"
  • "Napster, Limewire and others are making it easy to find any free content you want. Why would people pay for porn anymore"
  • "American Express and Discover and Paypal stopped processing for Porn... next will be Visa and Mastercard and then its ALL OVER!!!"
  • "Oh my fucking god!! have you seen this new thing called "Google Image Search"???? Fuck... its over. Why will people pay for porn anymore"
  • "TGPs are killing the industry with too much free content"

....... skip forward a few years
  • "Tubes are killing the industry"

I could make this list a 1000 items long and people would NEVER get it.

as i said to you before.... pornhub.com, tube8, keezmovies etc al aren't killing it in the search engines with phrases like "porn", "porn movies" etc because of "stolen videos"... neither are the other usual suspects that are ranking well for the most popular porn related phrases and grabbing 10+ million searches a day while people bitch about something they can't change. while people are bitching, these guys are going after traffic and taking your traffic. and how? because they simply have a slightly better understanding of how to rank for those phrases and how to beat the competition than the average idiot in this industry.

its full on, 100% retarded to bitch about shit you will never change. you can't change a business model that works. if your business model stops working as a result... then you're fucked.

People that pay for porn are old dudes with money and are not internet savvy.
Sure young dudes will find ways to get free porn, but do they have money anyway?

Targetting the right audience is key, if tube or free dump, not even that important. Its the way you set it up, not the way you call it :)

OldSchoolJim 07-13-2009 06:20 AM

Porn is an impulse buy....always has been....if a surfer sees something they want...they will PAY for it....period....and a large % of surfers pay for porn simply because they need to whack it and leave in a HURRY in most cases and dont have the time to search for what they want.....once you realize that you are winning the war....if not...start filling out applications....which is what most of you should have been doing the past 10 years anyhow....

funny huh?

there was a time when everyone would echo those thoughts "porn is an impulse purchase"

as peoples shitty sites tank... suddenly porn becomes a well thought out, well planned out, carefully weighed cost/benefit analysis by rocket scientists trying to figure out how to save 29.95 or at least search out the best value. porn surfers must have tons of spreadsheets.

people always pay for quality and its an impulse buy.

if pornographers were in the restaurant business... the vast majority would have a shitty restaurant, with a shitty ambiance, shady/questionable and almost nonsensical menu, average to bad food, horrible wait staff... constant customer complaints falling on deaf ears and they would be doing nothing but crying and telling you that taco stands are killing the restaurant business.

You sound like the karate instructor douche from Napoleon Dynamite.

Not sure what any of those things have to do with your 'inspirational message', but you could have probably merged those three things into one, or better yet...go crazy with your analogy...

"Just like in karate, ju-jitsu, tae kwon do, jello wrestling, bare knuckle boxing, thumb wrestling, boxing, Boxing Day, Barbara Boxer, martial arts, martial law, marshall pennysworth, marcia marcia marcia oh and LIFE...if you wake up everyday...blah blah blah"

it was a comment from one person who has devoted a significant part of his life to martial arts to another who has done the same.

i wasn't talking to you dipshit. to most, that would seem obvious since someone is being quoted in the post.

Interesting analogy.

My tracking data, and correspondance with members tell me they are 25-35 mostly, but almost all fall into the 25-45 range.

I guess some of them must be old at heart, or years before their time. :winkwink:

fatfoo 07-13-2009 08:41 AM

Not good. Agreed.

Half man, Half Amazing 07-13-2009 03:57 PM

My research tells me that most porn viewers fall into the 16-89 category. Not worth marketing to ages outside that demographic. Conversion ratios of the 90+ club are crap, unless you can hook one whose family doesn't notice they are on a rebill after they kick the bucket.

he's a good photographer. i remember that and go to his site when i need content for design... then instantly get turned off by a site that looks like its best day was 10 years ago and in seeing pics of models that look like (and some were) they were taken 10 years ago.

I'm asking because it seems that some people dont LIKE the way you tube (for example) is run, where *IF* they get a complaint they pull a video down. But that doesn't make it an "illegal" site. Just a method that ticks people off. SO I'm curious about the "illegal" part?

how about access to minors... any 8 years old can view a tube site while a membership site has a few safeguards

hitler was good at his job too. but he was insane, which in the end was his demise. while im not saying markham is comparable to hitler im just pointing out while he may be good at whatever he does if you spend 8 minutes reading his posts on message boards you realize he's a tool shed missing all the tools

i would compare him to hitler if the comparison is to him appearing in his own shoots and the Final Solution of killing hardons as the world has never seen before. he's a hard worker. he is probably out looking for more magic join links as we speak... or industrial grade tube site repellent, or perfecting his new paysite model where webmasters pays surfers to join... or maybe he's looking for a unicorn.

ok... that last bit was just because i like unicorns.
