ok, i just watched it. not a terrible movie i guess. it had some real smart ass little comments and subtleties that made me laugh throughout it. not a real gutbuster or anything, but i don't think that's what it was all about. good girlfriend watching movie. was definitily subtantial times better than hard candy was...
|
Yeah, it was a date movie... not bad, but not oscar material imho.

one thing that i dont like about it is that its another remake from an asian movie...dont the writers have original stories to make? and yea...the acting sucked

so my opinion goes like this. was it a good movie? yes. was it a movie i was really excited for, and did the movie excite me any? not really. would i watch it again? not by myself for shits and giggles, no. |

Anyway, I don't think it was the best film ever or anything but I enjoyed it and I cried at the end. As far as the acting goes, I thought it was fine but I thought Jennifer Garner was better than the lead actress. Perhaps being a woman that is unable to have a child helps me 'get' her character but I thought she did very well with that role. |
amazed me it got an Oscar
not the worst Ive seen but certainly not a movie Id recommend |
Saw it last weekend I liked it.

I actually liked it quite a bit
While not 100% realistic, I enjoyed the dialog and I enjoyed Allison Janey as the stepmother...she actually reminded me a little of my stepmother. The scene I really loved that most people almost laughed at, was when Jennifer Garner feels Juno's belly in the mall. That expression on her face...I remember the feeling I had when I felt the first kick of my first child in my wife's belly. That rush of excitement and that moment of pure joy...those who've never experienced it themselves won't understand. The film geek in me also got a kick out of the Dario Argento vs. HG Lewis debate (I'm in the Argento camp myself, but I love HG Lewis when he's splashing the screen with gallons of fake blood) |

That is the scene I was thinking of in particular when I said that Garner did a great job. That was a very well done bit of acting from her. |
This is a movie that I'll probably wait for the DVD....

I thought Juno was ok for a chick flick.

I thought it was great - smart dialogue (Ed. WTF? dialogue isn't a word according to spell check), genuinely likable characters, not you're typical high school romance story, and a good ending. It was a overly cheesy at times and most people I've talked with about it agree that the beginning was pretty bad so I was a little more than shocked to see it nominated for Oscars.
I wouldn't think it can really be enjoyed by the majority of people over 25. It's weird that everyone is comparing it to Garden State. Maybe it's the Indie subculture thing. I guess if you aren't into Indie Music or Film then you would have a harder time enjoying this. |

As far as weird angsty teen girl movies go.... Ghost World = 5000x better than Juno |

Garden State was crap, but Juno rocked. Not surprised it didn't go over well here on GFY. Not enough car crashes and titties for this crowd.

Off topic-
Banthis you seem to have a hard on for SuperBad and an Oscar. I am sure your aware those types of movies do not get nominated let alone submitted. Unless by chance it pops up in some off category. Think for a second and go over Spielberg's entire movie catalog and then count his Oscars and nominations. Then think of this again each time you want to say "what about SuperBad people". :winkwink: |
