    realistically?

we all know you are not the mob and you are not going to break his knee.

we all know going to the court is a further waste of time and money.

so what are you going to do?

First of all, learn the lesson: NEVER LEND MONEY TO ANYONE.
Then I would, for example, take his/her things and sell them. Watch, expensive shoes, TV, cellular phone, etc.
I mean, if you lend money to someone is because you think you know the person. So I would feel entitled to go to his/her home and grab whatever I think it would pay the debt. This part would be better be done if you go with a "big" friend of yours to watch over things (you don't want things to get out of control there).

            Depends on the amount.
Honestly I have no qualms about using small claims for judgements if the amount is above a given amount.

Then his looser ass takes you to court and also files charges. You loose on both counts. Unless of course you scare them enough to make them fearful of not pressing charges and calling your bluff. Then again some pressure may cause them to do just that because you over scared them.

Depends how much it is... if its a small amount you just write it off and lesson learned. If its a lot then you need talk to them and let them know you want your money back. If you can afford to suggest they can pay it to you over a period of time. Thats what I'd do.

I pretty much just give money to people when they ask to borrow it. If it's someone I wouldn't give it to it's someone i wouldn't lend it to.

Id just let it go... Life's to short and you can make more money... Instead of wasting your time chasing, put that energy into making more money...

That said though, THESE DAYS, I wouldn't lend money to anyone anyway...

Back in 2001 I was doing OK, with the net, and people new that... A lot of people approached me for small 'loans'... I helped them out and got screwed...

Then a close friend of mine asked me for a 'loan' to get a washer dryer... He ha a couple of young kids and his machine had just screwed up... I wanted to help, but didn't want to loose his friendship, if he couldn't repay...

So I BOUGHT him a washer dryer as a gift... I still keep in touch today...

So DONT LEND... Not worth it

I had that once. A good friend of mine did that, I told him our friendship was over cause I saw no point in continueing as I felt he was a leecher.

He apologised and promised to make it up. So he did and now everything is ok

It wasn't even about a lot of money, but for me it's about the principles. I don't care if it's $200 or $20000.
