Known as a 'cremora' firework. If you mix non-dairy creamer and black powder, you can get a neat explosion effect that doesn't stay lit and continue to burn, but it does throw off a lot of dust. If you belong to pyrotechnics guild and go to the conventions, you'll see them.Comment

In FX we used to light creamer on fire all the time. Lots of powders are inflammable. Another cool trick to do is put a little lighter fluid on the ground and light the puddle. As it's burning, get a can of WD-40 (Water Displacement formula number 40) and spray it into the air above the fire as it rains down over the fire it will erupt into a large fireball. If you shoot the water displacement formula high enough you'll have a fireball dancing in front of you for a while. But it takes nerves of steel to stand that close to a fireball as big as you are and still continue to spray.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the substance itself is not flammable, but because of its dust like nature, when thrown into the air, suddenly there is enough o2 around each particle to facilitate combustion.
Same thing works with flour, baking soda, and almost any fine powder you care to mention - the finer the better.Comment

Ironically, that shop that I learned all my fire tricks at burned to the ground. According to the fire report, a welder at the shop didn't see that a spark got too close to a life sized elephant that we had created for Operation Dumbo Drop, and it eventually caught fire and the whole damn shop burned to the ground.
5 gallon drums of alcohol, acetone, trichlorotrifluoroethane, and all kinds of nasty shit were exploding everywhere.

it was on the news when it happened. I remember being at Kevin Yagher's shop watching the morning news of the shop I used to work at going up in flames, Our industry was known for the nasty chemicals we used to use. trichlorotrifluoroethane aka "trichlor - trifluoro" aka "1,1,1," was so nasty you could pour it into a cup and tip the cup sideways and watch the chemical gas pour out. It's also used as an adhesive thinner (which is what we used it for)
And alcohol and acetone was used like water in the shops. That shit's everywhere.
