Umm, no the company basically turned into a write off to the tune of almost 175 Million dollars.

Basically someone got rich but it was not the investors LOL!
Another historical DOT scam.

The web site was the most boring thing I ever saw with that much investment so serves them right to belly up.

Damn, they didn't even have the sense to write articles about art and or even let the artist themselves write something cool.

They bought it during the dot com craze in 1999, overpaid quite a bit for it... They basically paid 100M+ for a good domain, and a website that wasn't making any profit...

I's just you. Everyone else read the original post and understood the context of the link.

The website is nothing but a shopping cart script.

They poured all the money in but not an ounce of creativity.

that's a crazy amount of money to spend on a domain name... they would have been better off getting an unregistered domain and spending the 100+ mil branding the site.

Sorry, but they would have had the same results because the website is bullshit.
That site had all the traffic in the world when it started.

Buying the domain was the only thing they did right.
They paid too much for the domain but these were the prices that names were going for at the time.

That's the way things were done during the dot com craze.
