The world plays soccer because the sport has such a low entry cost. All you need is a ball to play. A group of kids living in an African slum can play if they want to. Whereas other sports require the purchase of expensive equipment if you want to play properly. So that sets the stage for massive interest around the world.

Another thing that fuels soccer is rivalries between countries, but the people of America just don't give a damn about the rest of the world. So there isn't going to be any interest in clashes on the field.

Let me put it this way. I could not get into hooters in Cancun last night to see the game. Even with a soccer event going on across the street.

And here the teams that I see suited up for practice, is american foot ball.

My father died when I was nine months old, and my step father was from Europe. He had no interest in professional American sports. I played sports when I was a kid, but I don't understand American's interest in professional sports. Watching grown men who play football and get paid millions to do it just doesn't interest me in the least...

In the US soccer is growing in popularity every year but American football isn't growing anywhere else but here so I don't think its the same

Soccer is way bigger globally, American football is bigger in the US and Canada.

Personally, I can't stand American football... Slowest game on earth, they spend more time getting ready to play than they actually spend playing. Great for advertisers though.
