Ever flown first class?

Just booked London - LA and got upgraded to Virgin's "Upper Class" thanks to their loyalty program

Never flown first class long haul before, have you?

Can't wait to be seriously pampered

Yes,I did the LA to London round trip in Virgin Upper class using Amex Miles a year or so ago. It's great with the fold down seats but a little tough to get used to. The service is excellent! You will definately enjoy it.

A few times... Worst ever was 1st on Ethiopian Airways from Lagos to Nairobi. It was an original '70s aircraft with nothing changed. Food was also mightily suspect.

I'm sure Virgin will take care of you tho...

I had 2 seats to myself when flying from Sydney to LA. Does that count as business or first class? For someone my hight, 6f4". It doesn't get any better then 2 seats for the price of 1.

Never flown overseas, but I always fly first class. I like the fact that I'm able to change/cancel tickets at any time. Saved me on the trip to Vegas because my pregnant DIL ended up not able to go and I cancelled her ticket the day before the flight and received a full refund. It makes for shorter check in lines at many airports, less wait on boarding and deplaning, etc.

Fly it backwards, QF176, LA > Brisbane
They run the flight daily, but it's normally fairly empty.
Each time I flew it I got a middle aisle to myself. You'd get a bunch of pillow, some glasses of champagne and some blankets and make a little nest

Yep, on my way to Scotland. Front row. Not very many people on the plane considering the size of it. Before we landed the flight attendant asked me if I wanted to go check out the cockpit. When I got there they gave me a seat and told me to buckle up and gave me a head set so I could listen to them talking to the tower. Then I got to sit up there while they landed the plane. That was pretty awesome. Bet they don't do that anymore..

My first 1st class trip was when I was 3 months old and my most recent was last month. My uncle was a pilot for Delta and my grandfather helped to start the company so we always got upgraded for free because no one else was in 1st, lol.

Then I worked for Sprint and with an AMEX upgrade paid $25 per leg and they doubled (or tripled) mileage. Then another company I worked for paid for 1st on any flight over 2 hours. You get spoiled I don't mind flying with someone in coach but when I'm by myself I try to go 1st unless it's a short trip.

1st international is the best by far. Today's 1st domestic is worse than coach USED to be. Being able to cancel is the best. When I got sick recently my brother was able to cancel 2 of my planned trips for me at zero cost.

The best 1st class prices are to be had when there's heavy competition. First from ATL to LAS is just a little more than coach. In fact, when I made a decision to go to Vegas at the spur of the moment several years ago I paid double what first goes for now and got a coach ticket.

Domestic first class isn't real first class.
Real first class is international - try Singaporte airlines first class - you get a private bed & cubicle.

Flying first class domestic and international are totally different...nothing compares to flying firstclass international. Virgin is good. Singapore Airlines is awesome as well as Emirates.

The closest I've ever come to flying first class is taking this picture of the Concorde as it did a promo fly by in soutwest Florida.

However my sister has flown on the Concorde on her way to the Grand Prix de Monaco and she said it was more about speed than luxury.

I book first class on transatlantic trips....I never thought I would until once
I had no other choice....I had tears in my eyes when paying for it....but if
you fly first class......you're fucked....you don't want to go back to economy.

I don't give a fuck about the pampering except for decent food....and yes it's
decent. The biggest plusses are:

You don't wait in some terminal but a nice lounge with all kinds of neat shit.
Free food, Free alcohol

Very comfy seats which folds down to a full size bed so a few drinks and
night, night you arrive fresh, no jetlags, etc, etc

You don't have to go through the normal immigration lines and customs.
Your purser fills out all your forms hands them over to customs and you
walk through....funny is first class equals hardly ANY security checks.

You board as last and get off the plane first.

I flew first from Denver to London a few years ago on British Airways - the ticket was $4000 more than the standard $1300 return, for some reason though she asked at the time of booking if i wanted to go first for $300 extra on top of the standard fare - $1600 vs $5300..dumb not to.

Very good experience, great seats, personal flatscreen tv (15" i think) , very quick service, good food, unlimited free drink, no one was smelly - i wouldnt pay $5300 though but, if it was $500 above a normal seat, hell yeah every trip.

"Real" premium first class on Singapore Airlines A380:

However, I think shelling out tens of thousands for a first class seat like that is just as selfish and ethically unjustifiable as flying a private jet.

The Concorde is a tight little pussy of a plane. I walked though it in NY. I wouldn't even be able to fit into a seat. Its not spacy at all, its tight and small.

Wasn't about comfort. It was about flying faster than the speed of the planet's rotation at 54,000', and getting served kick-ass food on the way.

I flew economy class on Northwest Airlines to Vegas last month. It was horrible.

The seats were 3 in a row, crammed together so tight that you had absolutely no elbow room. It wasn't bad on the way down because we were drunk before we got on the plane.

On the way home when I was trying to sleep it was murder. My back was fucked for a week. I can't believe they give you so little room. No wonder people get blood clots in their legs from that shit.

What exactly do you get for the upgrade to first class? I assume they don't pack you in like sardines like in economy?

Yup, done Melbourne to Bangkok, 1st class with Qantas. And ya you'd never want to go back to Ecconomy ever again.

One of my friends is an FA for AA and doesn't like the enclosed 1st class seats - says they feel like a coffin

I doubt I would pay to upgrade for a full bed. Except for my last trip when I kept opening my mouth when I was sleeping and waking up with dry mouth, I've been happy in Delta's Business Elite seats that fold all the way down flat.

Flying to London as a kid my Dad got each of us a row of seats in coach. They were cheaper and lot more comfortable because we could completely lie down flat - you couldn't do that in 1st yet. But I've heard now that even though you pay for the seat, unless there's a butt in it, they reserve the right to take the extra seats from you, refund you the $$$ and stick some smelly people next to you

That is going to be sweeeeeeeeeeeet! International 1st class is the best I've heard. I've only flown domestic first class.
