However, I think shelling out tens of thousands for a first class seat like that is just as selfish and ethically unjustifiable as flying a private jet.

Now that is what I'm talkin about

Wasn't about comfort. It was about flying faster than the speed of the planet's rotation at 54,000', and getting served kick-ass food on the way.

I flew economy class on Northwest Airlines to Vegas last month. It was horrible.

The seats were 3 in a row, crammed together so tight that you had absolutely no elbow room. It wasn't bad on the way down because we were drunk before we got on the plane.

On the way home when I was trying to sleep it was murder. My back was fucked for a week. I can't believe they give you so little room. No wonder people get blood clots in their legs from that shit.

What exactly do you get for the upgrade to first class? I assume they don't pack you in like sardines like in economy?

Yup, done Melbourne to Bangkok, 1st class with Qantas. And ya you'd never want to go back to Ecconomy ever again. :)

I used to fly Vancouver to London business class on British Airways.. It was fucking awesome.. Went business class air canada once and it sucked by comparison.

One of my friends is an FA for AA and doesn't like the enclosed 1st class seats - says they feel like a coffin :(

I doubt I would pay to upgrade for a full bed. Except for my last trip when I kept opening my mouth when I was sleeping and waking up with dry mouth, I've been happy in Delta's Business Elite seats that fold all the way down flat.

Flying to London as a kid my Dad got each of us a row of seats in coach. They were cheaper and lot more comfortable because we could completely lie down flat - you couldn't do that in 1st yet. But I've heard now that even though you pay for the seat, unless there's a butt in it, they reserve the right to take the extra seats from you, refund you the $$$ and stick some smelly people next to you :(

Blah, nothing like fooling around with a crazy little chopper ;)

Never flown first class long haul before, have you?

Can't wait to be seriously pampered:winkwink:

That is going to be sweeeeeeeeeeeet! International 1st class is the best I've heard. I've only flown domestic first class.

I always ask to upgrade to first... Usually there are seats available and on most north american airlines it's only a $200-300 upgrade per seat.

It will be interesting what you think of the A380 Adam. Travelling first class?

Why 02-04-2008 01:57 AM

only fly first class on long hauls, shorter flights its a waste of money, unless you like the cancellation policies likes PK said, otherwise its the same seats you just dont have someone next to you and a couple extra inches of leg room.(on smaller planes at least)

the worst part is all the wierd food thy give you, why cant i just have a steak or a hamburger, something normal people eat. i dont need cold roast beef salad and a salmon burger.

insane

if the 380 every comes to Europe ill get a ticket - economy that is, these first class seats are nuts in price

Singapore Sydney is 3600 one way already, so Europe-Asia is gonna cost something like a midsize car

Tell me that when you are a multi millionaire, your kids are running around the airport, you get sick from the food, your kids are crying while waiting for 2 hours in line, you get stuck with a 4 hour layover which becomes an 8 hour layover because of delays, you have some lady sick and coughing next to your baby, then the airline looses your baggage!

I bet then you would really enjoy that private jet even though you call it "ethically unjustifiable".

Sorry to burst your bubble, but if you want good looking flight attendants you need to fly Coach. Classes are split by seniority among the crew, with the chief flight attendant typically working First Class left aisle. Those flight attendants -also called "flight dragons" by frequent fliers- are typically in their mid-50ies and look road hard. The hotties are in the back, at least with American and most European airlines. Singapore Airlines and Emirates have young ones in First too. Also, First Class may vary. Delta's International Business Elite sucks, so do most American Firsts. Lufthansa is OK, so is AF, Emirates is out of this World, so is Singapore.
