If you want to do money with internet, you need to offer something that people can't get for free....

Can people get porn for free???

YES, and plenty of it. P2P, Torrents, Tubes, MGPs

Can people Get Hollywood movies for free???

YES, and plenty of it. P2P, Torrents.

Can people play for free or get Games for free???

YES, Gaming Sites.

Can people get software for free???

YES, and plenty of it. P2P, Torrents.

Can people Get Medications for free (online)???

NO, they need to buy them....

Can people bet on sports for free (online)???

NO, they need money. USA citizens are not allowed to bet, so you lose a big market.

Can people invest for free (online Forex)???

NO, they need money.

Basically the Internet has turned to this direction, to offer everything for free... Except for two big markets: Pharmacy and Forex.

Some great points in this thread but I dislike the opening statement:

"What will you do when there is no money in online porn"

I think this is simplistic thinking. The real question should be:

"What will you do IF there is no money in online porn"

Plenty of cash is webmastering. You need to keep adapting but that is a given. And keep an eye on other markets at all times (ie. mainstream). Keep coming up with new ideas.

I see so many scared webmasters these days. Be bold, don't be scared of not making money. Just be excited about the possibility of making money!

I guess sextoys can be downloaded as well.

I'm not saying governments are not a threat to our industry. Only that cc processing is a bigger threat.

Take the US government for example. One way to harm our industry is for someone to propose a bill (like COPA or COPA II). Then that bill has to pass both house and senate. Then the bill has to be signed by the president. Then it will likely go to the Supreme Court as a free speech issue; quite possibly backed by the ACLU, their money and attorneys. COPA II us a perfect example of how difficult it is to make it through all the hoops. Another way could be obscenity prosecution but despite a very conservative government the past 8 years and John Ashcroft as attorney general they didn't put a dent in anything. it sure does suck if you are one of the few singled out but overall life has gone on for nearly every one of us. 2257 has caused a lot of fear the past few years. Many thought the US government was going to use 2257 in a conspiratorial manner; wholesale arrests for bookkeeping errors. Now 2257 has been deemed unconstitutional by the 6th Circuit Court. I'm not saying that is the end of 2257 but by and large the system and climate are working more and more in our favor as time goes on. Things are a whole lot today than they were in the late 80s with the Meese Commission. Not saying we can't come under fire by governments. I would expect we will continue to be. Just that compared to how quickly and efficiently processors can harm us, well I'm not nearly as concerned.

Consider those processors. AMEX stopped taking adult transactions in 2000. That was it. Just a policy decision of a company and it was gone overnight.

Visa and Mastercard control the permissable chargeback ratios. They can tighten that up at any time. They can make it extremely difficult on adult sites if they want or they can just ban us altogether.

The biggest threat to nearly everyone of us in business is our competitors. Michael Porter's books are an interesting read by the way; for anyone interested.

And it is been that way for as long as I have seen. When I was somewhat new to the industry we (freesite webmasters at the time) were scared to death of COPA. i've seen so many fears after that you just get numb to it.

I can think of half a dozen huge fears that have come and gone off the top of my head.

What we've seen so far is a normal business cycle. This was an awesome business with incredible business margins. Competition has shrunk the margins and they should continue to shrink on average. Some large well-known programs have been harmed by these shrinking margins over the years. Maybe the cycle has been faster than for some "new" industries because of the low barrier to entry and the existence of a free site model as a competitor. Hell, McDonald's doesn't have to compete against someone giving out free burgers, fries and milk shakes right down the road.

I like what you said. "Be bold".

Assuming mainstream movies don't suffer negative returns on investment due to massive piracy as well.

Did I say that ...... This topic is about money drying up. If the problem is piracy it will also affect Hollywood and limit it's production, profitability and job growth.

God I wish it would so I could get some of these programs out of my way Nothing IMO could be better than 50% of all programs fail, as I am sure others (me) will pick up the slack

The only way out is to offer exclusive content and niched sites.
Also, (even tho it pisses of the members) you can only view the content if you are logged in. No download possibilities. You tell the surfers that you had to do this because of theives and that to maintain the quality and the growth of the members area, you had to do this.

Hollywood is kinda closely related to TV. Between movies all FX shops work commercials. In fact I made more money on Budweiser commercials than I ever have. $80K for 1 weeks worth of work. I haven't made that much since then.

The problem is, the jobs come to far and few in between, but the reward is it's creative and socially stimulating.

Because people tend to be confused about it, I show you in detail which kind of sites/networks HURT which business:

Torrent Sites = Hollywood Movies, Series and Software.

P2P = Porn, Music and Software.

Tubes = Porn, Hollywood movies and Series.

Surfers will hardly find as much porn in Torrent Sites as what they can find in P2P. You can easily do the test by going to the respective sites.

I invite you to go to www.mininova.org and type at least 5 Major Porn Titles, the first 5 that come to your mind (no tricks), and tell how many of them are there, and how many seeds do they have.

Then go to Shareaza and Search for the sames titles.

Come back and tell me the results.

You can also do the same with Music. Any titles/song can be found in P2P, but not in Torrents. Of course Torrents are MAINLY hurting another business, Mainstream movies and series.
