Total was around $400. It was worth it, he's a good guy and friend. And he hates presents, so it's fun getting a person who hates presents nice stuff. : ) |

i'm really more of an irish whiskey guy. that is my domain. i've had j&b a couple times, pretty good. i will have to give the justerini & brooks a try. but generally speaking, i will take a nice pure pot still or well blended irish whiskey any day. |

We were at Ceasars last weekend for a bit checking it out. Pretty cool place. |
I use to manage a night club in LA years ago; we had about 30 different single malt scotches. I got to try all of them, one of the benefits’ of the job. I usually have a bottle of MacCallan in my pantry and next to it a good bottle of Jack Daniels. It depends on my mood. I also love Cabo Wabo tequila and love to put Yukon Jack in my coffee.

I just checked an auction site I use to see what their last bottle of Macallan 25 year went for...
The Macallan-25 year-old Distilled 1962, bottled 1987. Distilled and bottled by The Macallan Distillers Ltd., Craigellachie. 75 cl. In wooden presentation case. Single malt, 43% volume 1 bottle Sold for £250 |
OK.. I have to ask...
I like Vodka... And everyone who knows anything about Vodka more than the price and the hype knows that Belvedere and Chopin are PREMIERE brands because of taste alone. Yes they are SLIGHTLY cheaper than the hyped premiums and often are not even carried at all because bars goes by hype and kickbacks... So that being said.. Is Macallan worth $200 a bottle or is it bullshit that smells like rubbing alcohol like Kettle One or Grey Goose? Can someone give me some examples of crap shit and good shit based on smell and flavor and not hype when it comes to scotch? |

yes, it's absolutely worth it. the 24 year, if i remember correctly, is smooth and mild. light notes of burnt oak and citrus with a small hint of peat and carmel. tounge feel is velvety and relatively heavy. contrast that with something like johnny walker red that is very punget and rather rough, and to me tastes like tire rubber covered in gasoline. ;) |
This thread put me in a scotch mood so I headed to the grocery store... Couldn't decide what to get though so I thought I'd come back for some feedback.
Chivas 21 year? yay or nay? |

Plus I had a great uncle die a couple years ago that left me an unopened bottle from the 70's that I enjoyed partaking in. As far as I know, I don't think whiskey gets better with age, but this shit sure tasted sweet. It was from the early 70's just around the time I was born and I cracked the seal a couple years ago. I still have the bottle downstairs in my bar, I will have to snap a pic. |
