I already voted "no" at 8am
they need to go back to the drawing board on this one. I liked the portability but they're not doing enough to even things out or encourage people to start moving to Fl again.

Voting for it. It certainly isn't enough but at this point it is also better than nothing, sadly isn't that a common commentary on government.

My taxes aren't so bad because I bought before things went nuts. But I still don't like being somewhat stuck because I can't afford taxes on a bigger house.

This was just in the Tribune

Crist's last minute robo call
Voters are getting this phone message from the governor:

"Hi. This is Charlie Crist. Early exit polls are showing a very close race. Today is your only chance to cut your property taxes this year. How many times has government offered us a chance to get our money back? Please go to the polls and vote today to double your homestead exemption and make it easier for thousands of families to sell their homes and buy new ones, while also protecting education and vital services. The polls don't close until 7 p.m. Make sure you vote yes on Amendment 1 to cut your taxes now. Thanks so much."

I just moved to the state a few months ago and am alarmed with how many for sale signs that have been up this entire time and more added daily. But coming from California, taxes and the cost of living is already cheaper here.

I voted yes. I know the yearly savings are not looking that great, but for me the portability issue is the key, not the yearly decrease.
This bill is not the answer, but it's closer than we are atm.

voting NO requires the govt to come up with a plan that is actually something. not some bullshit plan that will reduce services and we get squat

no it doesnt. Christ came in on a platform of tax reform. I highly doubt he would allow a no vote to be just that without pushing the legislature into action to come up with a better plan

a "no" vote sends Charlie back to the drawing board. He basically has to come up with something or he will not be re-elected. I didn't vote for him but his campaign was based largely on insurance and tax reforms.

i liked the 1st plan they came up with best, no county property taxes at all, just city, and to compensate just raise the sales tax a bit.

people like me are getting fucked hard on property taxes and I don't get shit

if they went with the increased state sales tax then at least all these fucking tourists will help foot the bill instead of unjustly overtaxing people with expensive houses

some old people around here can't even afford to pay their property taxes as well as lots of growing families can't afford to move into or even rebuild a newer and bigger house

I voted yes.

True its not the best, but its something.

Whether or not it passes the legislature will still have to go back and work out a better plan. Some of you are acting like this is the end all / be all.

So you can either get NOTHING now and wait for change OR Get something NOW and wait for change.

sorry I dont agree with you. If it passes the legislature is going to say "The people have spoken and this is what they are getting" they are all going to pat themselves on the back and once again we will get screwed.

MAKING them do somehting that is ACTUALLY benificial to us is the only way to go here imho. not saying ok if thats it we will take it

How will voting no make them do something? They could still say "The people have spoken and they like it the way it is." (Lets go fishing.)

because christ was voted in on a property tax reform platform

if he wants to get re elected he will have to have viable property tax reform that property owners will except or risk alienating all of them in the next election
