The peaceful transfer of power...

is something far too many of us take for granted and is perhaps the primary difference between successful democracies and the rest. Even when there is an election dispute it is still peacefully managed. The more I watch the news - particularly from Kenya at the moment - the more I am grateful for accidents of birth.

It is a matter of intelligence, education and being willing to accept new futures. Even uncertain futures.

I have actually thought about this quite alot and I have realised, or at least I have come to think that most people of the world are unwilling to take a chance with not only change but are seldom willing to live with a change and accepting.

In A failed Democracy it comes from all sides, those in power asking for votes as well as those casting the votes.

In lower and less educated "Democratic, Societies"...
Those in power seldom wish to release it and most at least from what I have seen cling desperatly to it and resort to what they can to maintain power over the people.

Those that cast votes are seldom willing to live with the results, nor willing to be subject to an outcome and this is assuming elections are not rigged.

To a degree it is based on the maturity level and education of the society to turn in upheaval against those in power or the abuse of power belonging to those in power while maintaining a trust in a system.
Lashing out and violence are essentially the results when people have no trust in the governing system.

Keep in mind America is no longer a true Democracy, it is a Republic and they are actually different. True Democracy does not work, it can not work on the basis as checks and balances do not exhist.

A Republic has checks and balances with a working law system that underlays the framework of the societies goals as a whole.

Most countries attempting spin off's of Democracy fail to have true checks and balances, a house or even a parliament.

Look at N. Korea. What the fuck were they thinking when naming themselves Democratic People's Republic of Korea? Far from Democratic yet the education of the people were so bad they had just heard America was something called a Democracy and signed on to anything that had promised to put the people in power.
