Need a new lap top- MAC or PC ???

Can you still run TGP sites using a mac or should I still stick with a PC.
I really want to make the switch from PC to Mac.
Many Thanks

Well my partner just tried to make the switch. Went with a mac pro dual quad core 2.93ghz 4gb of ram. Thing sucked donkey dick lol. He paid a 10% restock fee to send it back and ordered a nice new shiny pc. I messed with it for 3 or 4 hours and couldnt stand it.

Oh but the Macrons will come in and tell you otherwise hehe.

All our Macs but one can run any OS you throw at it. OSX, XP, Vista, and flavor of Linux you can think of. I've got one running Leopard, that's 5 years old and now performs better than it did the day I got it.

If you're buying a decent machine and not shopping for something under $700, the Mac is a wise decision.

Heck, you can buy a 1 year old Macbook with 2 gig of ram, used for about that much.

mac blows sweaty balls. Even mac fanboys can't stand that crap anymore and install Microsoft operating systems - why pay high price for piece of junk you're going to hate? Just so you can be a fanboy?

Just from my experience. I was on the machine 4 minutes and had a program lock. This isn't an imac, this was a Mac Pro dual quad core 2.93ghz with 4gb of ram on a fresh install. Photoshop was slower than my duo core e6600 with 3gb of ram. Simple things are a pain in the ass. I use windows 16 to 18 hours a day everyday. I dont have problems like that happen on my machine. Shrugs. Maybe it was a friday afternoon built mac. Either way the thing is on its way back and new PC is due in on Tuesday from Dell. My partner likes warranties so had him get it from there. I build all my machines to make sure every component in them are well matched. Couldnt stand doing even simple things on it. Everything was a hassle. Programs for everyday stuff available for a pc were not available for a mac, and had to look for work around for everything.

Even if it worked flawlessly its not worth the pain in the ass to try and find what you need to get work you need to do done.

Not following you. You are saying that we should not only build our own machines, but we should build a company selling machines?

Im guessing you never built one. Here is how it goes. You choose your components you want from someplace like NewEgg.com you get a case power supply cpu memory, hard drives etc. It all comes in seperate boxes. You put everything together inside your new case and you plug it in and install your os. Takes me less than an hour to build a machine. Its not really hard. Just because someone can put a pc together doesnt mean they have some special magic that people are going to want you to build a company around lol.

Companies like Dell and HP etc go with components that might not be ideal. Mother boards might not be top of the line, memory might be good, but not the best. People that build machines normally are gamers or over clockers that want everything super solid so they can push them as hard as they can.

Huh? Why pay a company like alienware to build me a badass computer when I can build one myself with similar or better parts for considerably less money? Your run-of-the-mill dell can't possibly play the latest, greatest games with the settings cranked up to the max.

Frankly any idiot with some basic knowledge can build a badass computer. That doesn't mean that every idiot with basic computer knowledge wants to start his own business assembling computer parts he orders from newegg.

My experience from guys who have been windows users for years is that they have a hard time understanding the Mac when they first get it. Those guys need about a 1 hour tutorial from a Mac user to understand it fully. Once this happens, they will never go back to Winblows, guaranteed.

Yes, post receipts please. I run photoshop on my little $1400 macbook and it doesn't run any different than it did on windows. So far my macbook or imac haven't crashed once.

In all fairness, my windows machines rarely if ever crash either. I just switched because I despise vista.

It was very confusing for me when I first got my mac. I thought I had fucked up to be honest. I almost took it back to best buy. Once I installed quicksilver and figured out how finder and the dock behave I am pretty happy.

I didnt say it ran photoshop bad I said it ran slower than my duocore e6600 machine with 3gb of ram does. We ran some batch photo actions on both, and mac was slower than my machine.

http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL...AX27S2U/1.?p=0

Think that is the exact machine. Why would I waste my time making up something about a mac? I gave my opinion on macs after using my partners. its not like Ive never used different Os's and spent time trying out different stuff. Ive dual booted linux, ran every windows OS since 3.1, ran basic on my TRS 80 Model III. Built my own machines since 97 or so.

I was using the same applications I run in windows. Other than Had to mess around to get an ftp client, had to mess around to find an icq that worked.

Can you find apps that WILL work in mac and do the same as ones you use in Windows? Yes. Is it worth the hassle? Is it worth the extra cost for the machine? No. Not in my opinion. You can hate windows, but just dont tell me that Mac is the pristine answer to all that is computer. It isnt.

Btw the batches we ran in PS were Raw images files right from the camera, and used them on both. Running filters and actions we run on all our pics in windows and mac. Windows was faster.

How were you timing the differences in speed in photoshop?

It wouldn't have mattered if it was the best computer in the world. You wouldn't say it if it was. Just say it and get it over with

One thing that is extremely common from the anti-mac crowd is some sensational story much like the one you just told. Similar stories have been regurgitated when this topic comes up. It's been that way since the conflict started. That's not to say that macs are never turds, I am sure there are lemons out there.

You realize you are being the Pro mac crowd right? I gave the thing an honest test. It failed. Enough that my partner ate the 10% loss to send it back. Ordered a new pc. He still has a 23 or 24 " mac monitor if that makes you feel better. He does like that

Apart from the fact that you spend more time behind your computer than should be considered healthy, it isn't exactly shocking that the first few hours on a new system are somewhat awkward and annoying if you basically spend all your waking time on another system.

3-4 hours is an honest test? I couldn't stand my mac when I first got it. I liked it after about a week. I still don't love it but it beats the shit out of vista any day. Part of that is probably because of the apps I have found. Coda from panic.com is freaking amazing.

Fuck me, ARE YOU SERIOUS?

Ask around about Vaio. I use mine as a stand for my Macbook (Vaio is nice and shiny, works well for this), the thing is fucking horrible, screen blew and the processor died. They want $200 just to see what's wrong with it. Screw that.

I'm a programmer by trade and believe about getting things done and not about being a fanboy and the macbook wins hands down.
