    B.J. Penn Wins!

As I predicted in another thread, B.J. Penn wins. The finish was anticlimactic Penn just laid an enormous amount of punishment on Stevenson until the popular Las Vegan tapped to a rear naked choke at 4:02 of the second round.

    Sweet!!!

Yeah, it was almost total domination. I was surprised actually that Joe Daddy got submitted. I saw it being either a KO or decision for Penn, but wow. BJ looked extremely impressive.

      Ouch.

stevenson stood in there like a warrior still, and even with his back on the ground he was still at work. that glancing elbow split him open bad though, and it was only a matter of time before he couldn't do anything. i knew going into the second round that we weren't going to see a 3rd. i would have liked to see where things could have went without the enormous bloodbath that ensued with that split forehead. i personally didn't see it as a total asswhooping. people really love to get up on bj's nutsack don't they? stevenson wasn't layingback at all. bj was dominant, but in my eyes it was just another fight that ended due to a cut.

i was more excited for werdum and gonzaga, and everybody seems to overlook that fight, which was a great display in it's own right. werdum really pulled it out, it didn't end quite the way i thought it was going too.

really though, this entire event was one of the most exciting ppv's i've seen in months. was a good show all night, not a boring fight to be seen. i feel like i got my 40 bucks worth. which is pretty satisfying after going a stretch there were i was feeling awfully ripped off at the end of every night. here's to another couple of great events coming up too! ufc is gonna keep pushing it in '08.

Can't believe the amount of blood coming out of the other guy. And he still kept going. That was hardcore.

BJ said before the fight that it was not a good time to be stepping into the octagon with him, and he was right. BJ was in a zone and Stevenson was doomed, cut or no cut. Joe is tough and will wear the title within a few years.

And yes the card overall was fantastic. I'm just wondering when Davis will get a title shot? He's got to be thinking about it after yet another impressive 1st round win.

One little gripe though is all these "interim" title matches. From what I understand Penn is now the champ but it was billed as a match for the interim title? Same with GSP vs. Hughes and then Silvia vs. Nogueira.

Why not just call them "Top Contender" match as to me, they are not title fights when someone else owns the belt and hasn't been beaten for it. Either strip the champ of the belt or not, but temporary champions to me have no credibility.

Come on, don't browse GFY if you haven't watched the event yet. I know it's on tapedelay in the usual timeslot, but you gotta know a lot of people still watch it live in the afternoon.

Stevenson was a 3:1 underdog, so kudos on your prediction :p
