				 | Lawmakers are discussing a $500 rebate for individuals, said aides to lawmakers involved in the talks, with details for couples and people with children still being negotiated. The rebates would likely be limited to individuals with incomes of $85,000 or less and couples with incomes of $110,000 or less, the aides said, speaking on condition of anonymity because no final decisions had been made. http://blog.seattlepi.nwsource.com/t...ves/129804.asp |

				 | Where do they get the money from when they do something like this? It says it's going to cost 100 billion, but what's going to get cut to pay for it? Especially since Republicans don't like taxes. |

I would rather see the fed move the tax brackets further out for several years. Or cut the damn property taxes at the state/local levels. It is quite fucked up in my opinion that when real estate values are on a decline the taxes assessment is substantially increased. At least here in Florida. This move is just a gov't promotion before elections. If anyone willing to give me xx,xxx i'll send you 100% Free $1,500! | |

				 | its such a waste of money, its like putting a bandaid on a gaping wound. Want to know what would help, say credit card interest can be written off again and make it retroactive to 2007. That spur spending like they want. I like how bush is telling them to keep his tax cuts, its like dont you see the mess all around you. |

				 | I'm not necessarily against it but the only way to get this money is future taxation. We are looking at a increase in debt to be paid in taxes later. In return we will get about a 1% increase in GDP because face it if you give people who make less than $75k/year some extra money they are gonna spend it, not save it. If Bernanke is right and we are facing a slowdown which could get close to recession but not quite reach it the extra 1% spending will increase the odds of not having a recession and probably keep us out of one. If Bernanke is wrong and we face a substantial recession then this is, as tony404 said, just a bandaid that ain't gonna help much. Two points of view. No one knows which is right.

My home in San Diego which i call a 4 bedroom shed as its just wood and stucco cost me £5,000.00 ( $10,000.00 ) a year property tax. Then there's State and Federal tax, Business tax ( $800 minimum even if you dont make a profit ) Business and home improvement tax ( an example would be if you re modeled you home and spent $500,000.00 the tax would be 2% extra every year therafter. I could go on and on but the UK looks mighty appealing right now what with the £ to $ exchange rates....

				 | Wow, he's a big spender good 'ol Georgie-boy... first blowing astronomical amounts of your money on warfare to keep up the moneyflow in some less ethical business, and now he's gonna hand out cash to people... Money which those of You that pay the most taxes ARE/WILL BE paying for - "it's gonna cost more to not be poor" (and those who already are poor will be even more fucked). Think about it... exactly HOW big a hypocrites are the republicans in charge? Unreal!

The "home improvement tax" seems stupid - surely the government would prefer people to bring their shit-tips up to scratch, so that said shit-tips increase in value, thus encouraging house purchases in formerly shitty areas, and overall boosting the economy; taxing people who want to improve their homes seems to be equivalent to knocking people in education on the head with a lump hammer.
