Only once. Sent my vcr into circuit city to get repaired as it was under warranty. About a week after getting it back I spotted one on the entertainment center. Checking around I noticed a bunch of poop around the back of the VCR as well as when I shined a light inside the vent area there was movement everywhere. Circuit city said fuck off it was not us and you can not proove it.

By this time I had them about everywhere in the house and I bombed and did everything possible. Took me almost two months to rid the house of them. I also lost a bit of electronics to them. Then the real icing on the cake was I sent the TV, VCR, and surround sound box back to circuit city to exchange or repair (under warrenty still), they said no its due to cockroach damage. I explained the whole damn issue and still got the fuck off. Have not been back to a circuit city since.

By the way what really worked was that gel stuff you can squirt in certain places that they eat and also take back to nests that renders them sterile or whatnot.

I once was giving a ride home to a HOT girl that worked in my office. She was sitting in the passenger seat and pulled out her wallet. I noticed that when she opened it, a cockroach ran out and into my car.

Although this girl was FUCKING HOT, it made me think she was very very dirty.

I later saw her apartment, and she had nats and cockroaches and all. She was very very dirty - BUT GOD DAMN WAS SHE SMOKING HOT!

I believe her uncleanliness was due to her drug/alcohol problem. She was quite crazy BUT FUCKING HOT AS HELL!

                Just thought I would share.

Technically, they're scavengers - not parasites.

That said - I'm not sure cockroaches exist in Los Angeles... can't recall seeing any since I moved out here.

There are probably more on one given block than the population of China.

Guess I've been in the wrong (or right - depending on your POV) places in the last 11 years, then...

Maybe just not in the Valley or North L.A.?

Maybe I'm not looking hard enough?

Maybe I think anything smaller than a FL Palmetto Bug doesn't qualify for "roach" status, and I'm thinking they're small beetles?

Seen plenty of Ants... silverfish... beetles... just no roaches that I can recall.

You are all crazy. Cockroaches are everywhere. They can live in an area the thickness of a nickel. They can AND DO eat crumbs out of your toaster when you sleep. They can survive on the glue from a postage stamp or an envelope. They can survive for 7 days without their head and only die of dehydration.

I raise cockroaches. The only difference between me and you is, I keep mine in a cage, and you let yours run all over the house.

Why are they called COCK roaches anyway? COCK? What the fuck?

It's not like they have big giant cocks or anything. Why not call them "dirt bag" roaches or something?

Do they have a use that I am not aware of?

I was just going to point out if you can not find normal german style roaches in LA, I can at least give you redshoes ICQ and he can show you giant hissing roaches and possibly some others too. (sorry if they are not of the hissing type).

Well dicks have not been called cocks as long as cockroaches have been called cockroaches, and as a side point cocks (male chickens) are not hung either. I think for some reason maybe the human penis was nicknamed a cock due to it looking like a beak and the two comb like testicles. But fuck I am just guessing on the last one.

Use, well they are indeed a super creatures and we have learned a great deal from them scientifically. Many of our current robotics that require leg movement have been based off of that insect. I am sure redshoe has more info. Oh and in many cultures they provide a healthy dose of protien.

cockroaches indeed use tripodal stability which is what scientists were basing a lot of robots on a few years ago. It seems now with better robotic stabilization methods that bipedal is what they are improving these days.

Because they use tripodal stability the idea is that anything using this principal can go infinitely faster and improve it's stability. Bipedal can not, it will never be as fast as tripodal.

We had an entomologist come in and show us hours of video of cockroaches running and how they functioned as well as video of how scientists use them to study tripodal stability.

Even though the idea is that tripodal stability is a far better method of transportation for it's stability and speed advantages, but it was discovered (with the videos that I mentioned) that some roaches will often run so fast that they will actually lift and tuck in their front 4 legs and only use their back two legs when running at full speed. They don't do it for very long, but they do. Tripodal stability can work infinitely but roaches have limitations so to improve themselves they will tuck their front 4 legs for quick bursts of speed.

I think I have seen some of the same videos. I think one of the main things they were learning was how their walking patterns allowed them to maintain a good speed even over rough terrain.

No, but I've lived in places that had them. They're disgusting. They get into everything. They'll eat your food, reside inside your microwave, inside your printer and computer, will even crawl on you. And they're super fast on their feet, so it's not like killing other bugs.

Best way to avoid them is to not live in an apartment building or semi-detached house.
